Over the last few days, we have seen Democrats and other liberals doing verbal gymnastics to avoid giving Donald Trump direct credit for the peace deal between Israel and Hamas.
There were a few, however, who did offer words of well-earned praise.
Two such instances, however, really got the liberal world fired up.
Ever since Bill Maher had his sit-down with Trump, he has been far more honest in his assessments of the president.
He still doesn’t support Trump, but at least he gives him credit when he does something good, as he did regarding this peace deal.
Maher stated, “I always say this -- you cannot ever deny success. You just have to give your respect even if it’s not your thing.”
He continued, “Have the humility to give it up for enormous success on any level. Trump -- not my choice, didn’t vote for him. And he’s -- I can’t deny the success.”
Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel have made it their mission to take down Trump, and we go after them both all the time, but I will give them props for acknowledging our president's role in securing this peace deal.
Colbert stated, “It’s less, we didn’t start the fire and more everything’s on fire. There is some good news out there because, today, thanks to Trump’s newly brokered ceasefire in Gaza, all living Israeli hostages and almost 2,000 Palestinian prisoners have been released. It’s important. Credit where credit is due -- Donald Trump did something good.”
Kimmel also gave Trump praise for the deal, but he, of course, also had to take a cheap shot in the process. Kimmel stated, “What a day for Donald Trump. You know what? He finally did something positive today, and I want to give him credit for it, ’cause I know he’s not the type to take credit for himself. While we’re only in the first phase of what will undoubtedly be a long and tricky process, the fact is the bombing has stopped. The hostages have been released.”
He then added, “And Trump deserves some of the praise for that. So, I know it sounds crazy to say but, good work on that one, President Trump. Now maybe you can not invade Portland. Just an idea.”
Barack Obama and Joe Biden have taken considerable heat for their comments about the ceasefire deal, but former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gave Trump his due.
Hillary stunned me the other day with her statement on the agreement, and Bill did the same, stating, "The horrors of the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel and the conflict they reignited have resulted in unbearable human loss. It has been hard to watch and nearly impossible to rationalize."
The former president continued, "I’m grateful that a ceasefire has taken hold, that the last 20 hostages have been freed, and that desperately needed aid has begun to flow into Gaza. President Trump and his administration, Qatar, and other regional actors deserve great credit for keeping everyone engaged until the agreement was reached."
Something like this goes a long way to ease the tensions that divide the left and the right, or at least I thought it would. So far, while the right is giving Democrats props for their statements on the subject, the left is having a complete and utter meltdown over them. It truly is a shame because this was an event that I really thought everyone could rally around, but one side just does not seem interested in calling a truce.
