The big news of yesterday came in the form of an indictment handed down against New York Attorney General Letitia James.
Ironically, the indictment of James is almost a mirror image of the civil suit she filed against Donald Trump for real estate-related fraud.
Democrats, of course, are losing their minds, but James has nobody but herself to blame for the trouble in which she now finds herself.
While James and Democrats talk about Trump weaponizing his DOJ, let’s not forget that a similar approach formed the core campaign promise made by James when she was running for office.
She pledged that she would be Trump’s worst nightmare and that he would know her by name before she was done with him. Her number one issue, she told voters, was getting Trump at all costs.
Disgraced former Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger, who sided with the Democrats during Trump's second impeachment and was one of two House Republicans who served on Nancy Pelosi’s Jan. 6 Committee, even called James out for having run on such a vow.
He stated, “Letitia James never should have made those comments. She never should have run on, ‘I‘m going to go after him,’ before she‘s seen the evidence, before she‘s had anything. That was wrong. Not illegal. That was wrong.” Why not call it what it really was… the weaponization of her office.
Democrats were falling over each other to hold a press conference to talk about how Trump has weaponized his office against James, but they all seem to forget that while the president may be influencing actions taken by the DOJ, as every one of his predecessors has done, he does not hold sway over any grand jury.
Among those whining about the criminal charges lodged was former VP Kamala Harris, who stated, “Today, I learned that the attorney general of New York just got indicted, even though the prosecutor who first looked at the case, who I’m told is a very conservative Republican, said there was not enough evidence.”
Well, you don’t get a grand jury indictment unless you have sufficient evidence, so I am not sure what to tell Harris on that front.
The former vice president was far from alone among upset Democrats, as they were all grandstanding on the topic, including Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who claimed that every American should be horribly alarmed over the indictment. Yet, I don’t seem to remember any outrage on the left when Trump was sued by James for the same conduct, more or less, for which she now must answer.
The irony in all of this is that James’ own words are coming back to crush her.
For instance, in February 2024, James posted, "When powerful people cheat to get better loans, it comes at the expense of hardworking people. Everyday Americans cannot lie to a bank to get a mortgage, and if they did, our government would throw the book at them. There simply cannot be different rules for different people.”
Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), who is expected to announce a run for New York governor as soon as the 2025 election cycle is over, stated, "Her hypocrisy is profound as she campaigned on the mantra that 'no one is above the law,' yet she now faces allegations of committing the very type of financial misrepresentation she baselessly pursued against President Trump.”
Her statement is a bit strong, as Trump may well have cooked his own books, but James went way overboard in going after him. So, now, she deserves everything she gets here. This, my friends, is what is known as karma, and James is getting a full plate of it.
