I have to be honest… I was not sure prosecutors would ever reach this point.
They have been working for months to secure an indictment against New York Attorney General Letitia James, and reports made it seem as though things were not looking good.
That all changed on Thursday, however, when the announcement was made that a grand jury had come back with an indictment against one of President Donald Trump’s biggest enemies.
I can say without a doubt that much of how the 2026 and 2028 elections are likely to play out will center around the success or failure of this case.
The GOP dodged a major bullet by securing a grand jury indictment against James, which is not an easy thing to do.
U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia Lindsey Halligan announced the news, stating, "No one is above the law. The charges as alleged in this case represent intentional, criminal acts and tremendous breaches of the public’s trust. The facts and the law in this case are clear, and we will continue following them to ensure that justice is served."
The same Democrats who applauded James' civil fraud case against Trump and claimed that nobody is above the law are now furious over the fact that one of their own has been indicted.
The reaction to the James indictment is very much the same as what we saw when Trump was embroiled in legal troubles, only the shoe is on the other foot now.
James got the outrage started, claiming, "These charges are baseless, and the president’s own public statements make clear that his only goal is political retribution at any cost.”
Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) responded, "Her hypocrisy is profound as she campaigned on the mantra that 'no one is above the law,' yet she now faces allegations of committing the very type of financial misrepresentation she baselessly pursued against President Trump.”
Rep. Rich Torres (D-NY) had a bit of a different take, stating, "The politically motivated indictment of Attorney General Letitia James is an abuse of power -- a weaponization of government -- at its most outrageous and egregious. Rather than addressing the grocery and utility bills crushing American families, Donald Trump remains pathologically preoccupied with his personal enemies list."
So, let me say this… when the case against Trump was initially filed by James, I stated that it was ridiculous in that the conduct at issue was something that normally would have resulted in a small fine and a slap on the wrist. I will say the same about the charges against James, but the fact is that Democrats set this precedent, a sentiment that has since been echoed by Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz.
The famous attorney stated, “And there’s only one precedent to support what Trump has done going after Letitia James, and that precedent is the New York courts upholding her prosecution -- civil to be sure -- of Donald Trump.” He continued, “And I don’t like either of them. I hate the fact that the justice system’s being weaponized. So I’m opposed to get Trump. I’m opposed to get Letitia James. I’m opposed to get Comey. I’m opposed to get Schiff.”
I agree with Dershowitz on all accounts except for the Comey case, as I believe he needs to be brought to justice. Having said that, everyone seems to be ignoring the fact that James was indicted by a grand jury, where prosecutors have to show probable cause for the indictment, and that is not easy. Should James be facing 30 years for mortgage fraud? Probably not, but neither should Donald Trump have been facing $500 million in a settlement for the ridiculous case James made against Trump for fraud. This is tit for tat, and Democrats don’t like the fact that they are now on the receiving end of the boot.
Nobody had a problem when Letitia James literally ran a campaign promising to weaponize the justice system against Donald Trump, yet now they are all up in arms. The hypocrisy is thick enough to cut with a knife.
