Democrat candidates are having a tough go of it during this most recent cycle.
As we get closer to November, both a New Jersey Democrat gubernatorial candidate and a Virginia attorney general candidate are seeing their campaigns collapse.
That is not the really big story, however, as California gubernatorial candidate Katie Porter may have just sunk her entire bid over a couple of meltdown videos.
Before I get into the hot mess that is Porter, I wanted to do a quick follow-up on Democrat Virginia AG candidate Jay Jones.
If you read our report yesterday, you would have seen the disgusting, resurfaced texts sent by Jones in which he wished for two bullets in the back of the head of the then-speaker of the state House and expressed his hope that the Republican lawmaker's children died in their mother’s arms.
Jones eventually apologized for the texts, but that is only because he was caught. And while those messages should have immediately removed him from consideration, Democrats are doubling down on their support of him, or at least most of them are.
In the recent Washington Post-Schar School poll and a Christopher Newport University survey, Jones was holding a six-point lead in the race, but that is now gone. The most recent poll has him up by only one point, with the pollster explaining, “Jay’s image has suffered some erosion during the events of the last few days; when asked their impressions of Jay based on what they had read, seen, or heard recently, fully 44% of voters say they feel LESS favorable toward him, compared to 12% more favorable.”
Last month, Porter sat down with a local CBS News reporter and flipped out when the journalist asked her a question about winning over supporters of President Donald Trump.
CBS News correspondent Julie Watts asked her, “What do you say to the 40% of California voters, who you’ll need in order to win, who voted for Trump?”
Porter immediately grew argumentative with her and was then told that every other candidate in the race had already answered the question. The gubernatorial hopeful then stood up and started to take off the microphone.
The Democrat eventually calmed down and came back for a full 20-minute interview, but her reaction really showed how unhinged this woman is.
When the video mentioned above went viral on X, all of a sudden, the dam wall broke, and the unflattering stories started to flow. My favorite of these was another video of Porter having a meltdown with a staffer who popped into her Zoom frame to correct her while she was shooting a video message.
The staffer was just trying to make sure Porter had the right information, but watch how she treated her…
Porter, at one point, had a commanding lead in polling, but that has changed since these videos went public. She is now trailing Republican Steve Hilton overall after previously having a six-point lead against him. The telling sign, however, is that there are still 34% of voters who consider themselves uncommitted, and these videos are not going to help Porter win them over, especially the ones who are Trump supporters.
If you can believe it, there is a real chance that we could see a Republican elected California governor. And we are going to need that to undo all this nonsense currently being put in play by Newsom. I can only imagine what happens in that state if the unhinged Porter moves into the mansion. I don't want to get people too excited, as there is still quite some time to go here, but to me, it looks like Democrats had better figure out a better option than Porter because these videos are campaign gold for Hilton.
