Illinois Democrat, local police come forward to ask for federal help in combating crime

The governors of Oregon and Illinois are pushing back against Donald Trump’s request to deploy National Guard troops to protect federal agents.

That narrative of federal overreach leveled by liberals is starting to fall apart, as growing numbers of influential people are coming forward in these states to ask for help.

In Chicago, a local Democrat alderman is asking for help, and in Portland, local police say they would love to see more support from the government.

In denial

Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek blasted the Trump administration for wanting to activate the National Guard in her state to protect federal agents (this is why Trump wants them there, not to take over the streets as many Democrats contend).

She stated, “This is not a factual need on the ground in Oregon, to deploy any of the military in the National Guard, whether they’re from California or Texas or Oregon. This is a fundamental issue for our democracy -- about what the control and the authority of the president is, and what the court says it is. The rule of law has to hold.”

Illinois Democrat Gov. JB Pritzker has taken much the same stance, downplaying the violence in his state, saying it is “only” within a two-block area, completely ignoring the fact that ICE agents were recently boxed in and attacked in that same location.

Pritzker then stated, “Certainly, there’s a lot more going on in the world than for him to send troops into Chicago. He ought to be focused on some of the bigger problems.”

Chicago alderman steps up

While these governors are looking the other way as their TDS rages, some local officials who live in this mess daily are calling out for help.

Raymond Lopez, alderman for Chicago’s 15th Ward, believes that Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Pritzker’s pride is getting in the way of what really needs to be done.

He stated, “The politics of this city and of hyper progressive liberalism is bringing us closer to the brink with an escalation that I don’t think any of us truly wants to see.”

Lopez continued, “The governor, the mayor, with a wink and a nod, told everyone to protest peacefully. And we’ve seen the exact opposite unfold. They’re continuing to play a game of chicken with other people’s lives.”

Portland police welcome assistance

The president of Portland’s police union, Sgt. Aaron Schmautz, says that the department is severely undermanned and would welcome the help that Trump is suggesting.

Schmautz stated, "Let's present what resources we have to bring to bear to accomplish that task. And if it's not sufficient, then we need help. And so, you know, again, I don't want to be drawn into a hard yes or no. What I want is for us all to identify the problem and work together as a whole of government to solve the problem."

He then added, "There is a lot, I mean, of just open, very, very anti-police rhetoric in our city council meetings.”

I think that tells you all you need to know about the state of the Democratic Party today. They will cut off their nose to spite their face, as long as it does not lead to a situation in which the president could get a perceived win. Forget whether or not it benefits their residents… all they are interested in is hurting Donald Trump.
