We are starting to see a lot of talk about price controls being set by the government, but that would rob the American people of a key piece of information that open-market pricing offers.
When prices go up, it means that products are scarce and are in high demand. When prices go down, the supply is abundant and demand is lower. Thomas Sowell discussed this very subject, stating:
"Prices are not just ways of transferring money. Their primary role is to provide incentives to affect behavior in the use of resources and their resulting products."
