ICE not getting help from local police in Portland

Over the last month or so, there have been reports of protests and riots in Portland, Oregon, over the presence of ICE agents on the ground.

This led to President Donald Trump announcing that he would be sending in National Guard troops to help support federal authorities.

Leadership in Portland has rejected the notion that federal help is needed, and now ICE claims local police are ignoring the threats being made against its agents.

Bringing in the troops

On Wednesday, Trump posted that National Guard troops were already in place in Portland.

The president wrote, "We will never allow MOBS to take over our streets, burn our Cities, or destroy America.”

He continued, "The National Guard is now in place, and has been dedicated to restoring LAW AND ORDER, and ending the Chaos, Death and Destruction! We are a Nation of LAW, and we will PREVAIL."

Needless to say, this drew the sort of response we would expect from liberals and Democrats in the far-left enclave.

Mayor rejects militarization of city

Mayor Keith Wilson and about a dozen or so mayors from around the state held a press conference this week to decry the federalization of their cities.

Wilson stated, "The number of troops we want is zero. The Oregon National Guard are our friends and neighbors. They are here when wildfires rage, or floods destroy, or overseas conflicts require their protection. That's their job, not this.”

He continued, “When these volunteers answered the call to service, they made a solemn promise to their communities and nation that the federal administration is now dishonoring. The justification for their presence in our cities is either a misunderstanding, or a lie. I hope it is only a misunderstanding we can soon resolve."

While Democrats have denied there is anything of concern occurring, videos are popping up on an almost nightly basis of protests and heated conflicts with ICE agents.

No support

Cammila Wamsley, director of Portland’s ICE office, is telling a far different story than the one coming from Democrats in Oregon.

Wamsley stated, "I just, I can’t figure out what’s happening at the FDA. I’m totally baffled by it. It’s frustrating for us to watch people be attacked on the street and know that we don’t have the authority to be able to really step in unless there’s some nexus to federal law."

She added that these scenarios have gone well beyond protests, escalating to bottle rockets aimed at the facility, stones thrown through windows, and rioters using lasers to try to blind agents.

With Portland asserting sanctuary city status, area police have been slow to respond, as local officials do not want them helping ICE in any way, with Wamsley stating that this is the “guidance from the mayor and city council.” Dems just keep digging in deeper on this issue, but the American people made it pretty clear when they elected Trump that immigration was top of mind. As long as Dems hold this line, they are leaving the door open for the GOP to have a fighting chance of retaining control of the House in 2026.
