Democrats are used to having a friendly audience with the media, but the concept of government-provided healthcare benefits for non-citizens has become a hot topic in recent days.
Liberals in Congress are preventing the passage of a continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government due to a dispute over those healthcare benefits, and they are resorting to twisted semantics as a way to justify their demand for illegal immigrant coverage.
When Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) was surprisingly called out on the situation in a recent interview, she just about lost her mind.
Before I get into the meat of this report, let’s clarify what is actually taking place here.
It is against federal law to use taxpayer money to provide healthcare benefits to illegal immigrants.
However, when Joe Biden was in office, he worked around current immigration laws to give legal status to many who would never have otherwise received it. Biden was quite liberal when it came to asylum claims, and his administration used the CBP One app to circumvent courts and offer asylum to migrants who never would have passed through the process under normal conditions.
These are all the people whom the Dems now want covered. So, like I said, this is a matter of semantics. I think the GOP would have been better off categorizing potential recipients as Biden’s non-citizens, or something along those lines, but the term illegal immigrant hits home a bit harder.
Democrats have been making the media rounds, insisting that Trump and Republicans are lying about them wanting to cover illegal immigrants.
Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) recently appeared on Fox News, insisting that Democrats have never advocated for healthcare for illegal immigrants.
Host Lawrence Jones then called her out in real time, showing her a clip of a Democratic Party presidential primary debate in which every candidate on the stage stated that their agenda included healthcare coverage for illegal immigrants.
Vice President JD Vance also addressed the Democrats' narrative on this subject, stating, “It’s not something that we made up. It’s not a talking point. It is in the text of the bill that they initially gave to us to reopen the government.”
Warren appeared on CBS News this week, when she was asked by CBS Mornings host Tony Dokoupil about the GOP's claim that Democrats were trying to secure healthcare funding for illegal immigrants.
He had not even gotten his question out when Warran went ballistic, stating, “Excuse me, not strictly true. It is a flat-out lie. It is a flat-out lie! There is nothing in Medicaid, there is nothing in Medicare that permits one undocumented immigrant to get one dollar of assistance. None, zero.”
Dokoupil cut her off, finishing his question, stating, “In the Democratic counteroffer, the proposal for funding, there is a restoration for Medicaid benefits for certain non-citizens that had been taken away in the big, beautiful bill, as Republicans put it. Republicans don’t think those people should be getting healthcare on the taxpayers’ dime, I’m not asking on the merits. Politically, putting that in there exposes you to this talking point, this lie, as you put it. Why put it in there? Why is it worth it?”
Warren again denied the claim, but as I stated, this is all semantics. I do have to admit, however, that I am really surprised the media is now attacking this issue from a “non-citizen” angle, which is a far better way of putting it due to the way in which Biden moved illegals into the "legal" column via his radical, open-borders policies.
