Thune expresses concern over administration's push for Tylenol label change

Recently, the Trump administration announced that it was going to change the FDA's warning label on Tylenol products.

This development provoked the usual outrage on the left because we all know, if Trump cured cancer, Dems and libs would find a problem with it.

Now, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) is also expressing concerns, and I think he is dead wrong for doing so.

Tylenol and autism

Autism is a condition that has baffled the medical world for decades, but the Trump administration has now pointed to some studies that show a possible link between the use of Tylenol during pregnancy and autism.

Better safe than sorry, so the warning label on the product is being changed, pursuant to administration directive.

U.K. Health Secretary Wes Streeting pushed back on the very concept, stating, "I trust doctors over President Trump, frankly, on this."

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists also cried foul, stating, "Studies that have been conducted in the past, show no clear evidence that proves a direct relationship between the prudent use of acetaminophen during any trimester and fetal developmental issues.”

Thune jumps in

Thune was recently asked about the decision by Trump and HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. to change the warning label, which detractors claim amounts to a bucking of science.

He responded, “Well, I’m obviously very concerned about that.”

Thune continued, “I think that science ought to guide these discussions, these conversations, and our decision-making around our health. There are studies out there that they reference -- but again, I think there are an awful lot of people in the medical community who would come to a different conclusion about the use of Tylenol.”

Thune, however, seemed to miss input from one key organization… Tylenol.

Warning customers

Thune should have done some research before responding, because past X posts from Tylenol are blowing up all over the place right now.

In one response to a customer query, Tylenol posted, “We actually don’t recommend using any of our products while pregnant. Thank you for taking the time to voice your concerns today.”

Tylenol parent company Kenvue then claimed that the post was not offering full context, adding, “Acetaminophen is the safest pain reliever option for pregnant women as needed throughout their entire pregnancy. Rigorous research, endorsed by leading medical professionals and global health regulators, confirms there is no credible evidence linking acetaminophen to autism.”

If it is safe to use, then why were there repeated warnings about using the product while pregnant? Like I said, better safe than sorry. And by no means am I agreeing that Tylenol causes autism, but perhaps this is something that needs to be researched a bit further, because after the COVID debacle, it seems that research study outcomes in the medical and pharmaceutical realms often reflect the feelings of those paying for them.
