Over the past few days, a disturbing trend has been unfolding.
Several days ago, a top aide for Attorney General Pam Bondi decided to call it quits.
Now, one of Trump’s most loyal staffers has turned in his resignation, only eight months into his tenure.
Before I get into these two departures, I wanted to address why this is important and what it tells me about the inner workings of the administration.
Generally speaking, when people are brought into the White House fold, they are expected to stay for at least two years before moving on.
When staffers start to leave this early, especially in such key positions, whether true or not, the perception becomes one of people jumping off a sinking ship.
In this case, we have two very high-ranking loyalists who are bailing after only eight months, so, yes, that is worrisome to me.
Chad Mizelle, chief of staff to Bondi, called it quits a few days ago.
Trump has been putting significant pressure on Bondi to prosecute a number of high-profile figures, and I have to wonder if that was not sitting well with Mizelle.
All the spin in the world is being put on the departure, and the usual “spend time with family” excuse was given as the reason that Mizelle is leaving.
I don’t think it is as simple as this, but I suspect loose lips will soon let us know what was really going on.
While Mizelle’s departure is concerning, the departure of Taylor Budowich, White House deputy chief of staff for communications and personnel, is very alarming to me, though it is allegedly due to a desire to return to the private sector.
Trump adviser Stephen Miller discussed the departure, stating that Budowich is "one of the true MAGA faithful who has poured out his heart for this movement and our President.”
Miller continued, “He is universally admired and respected. No matter the issue or need, his insights and talents are sought after and valued deeply. He is and remains a cherished and loyal ally to us all."
Vance and other officials all applauded Budowich as he exited the administration. Now, maybe I am reading too much into this, but history has offered some significant insight into why departures of this magnitude take place. And, as I stated above, the media is already raising red flags over this, so get ready for the onslaught of “mass exodus” stories in the press.
