Donald Trump made an announcement this week that was a long time coming.
The president stated that he will declare ANTIFA a terrorist organization.
Some say ANTIFA is just an idea, while others insist it is an organization, and I am in the latter camp.
Along with ANTIFA, Trump previously warned that he would be declaring drug cartels and gangs as terrorist organizations, and he did that on the first day of his second term in office.
This was a game-changer in terms of how Trump was able to fight the drug trade in this country, as the designation allows him to use the military to fight cartels rather than just federal agencies.
I also believe the decision served as something of a measuring stick for Trump, to help him see how far he could take things.
Well, that theory was just proven right.
I am sure that most people reading this are familiar with ANTIFA and are not buying into the idea that it is only an ideology, and not an actual, organized group.
I can tell you firsthand that when I was living in Roanoke, Texas, ANTIFA showed up to support a drag show at a local restaurant that had outraged locals. Members were walking the streets with weapons, and they staked out on garage roofs (they were removed) like snipers.
They were literally trying to prevent us from walking down our streets in the name of protecting the establishment in question.
In that case, nothing violent happened, but there are plenty of videos online documenting the violence of this group and the local communities they have terrorized, which leads us to Trump’s declaration.
Trump stated this week, “I am pleased to inform our many U.S.A. Patriots that I am designating ANTIFA, A SICK, DANGEROUS, RADICAL LEFT DISASTER, AS A MAJOR TERRORIST ORGANIZATION.”
He continued, “I will also be strongly recommending that those funding ANTIFA be thoroughly investigated in accordance with the highest legal standards and practices.”
So, what does this mean for ANTIFA? If the designation is not challenged, it would literally open the door for Trump to use military force to engage ANTIFA, which I think would be a huge mistake, as it would only feed the narrative that Democrats are pushing regarding authoritarianism.
I really want to hear more about this from the administration to clarify its plans, but Trump has to be very careful here. Believe me, I think ANTIFA is a very dangerous organization, and I believe it must be addressed, just not with the help of the military. I believe ANTIFA's conduct is still a matter for traditional law enforcement approaches, which is why I really want to see the White House offer some clarification.
