We all knew the showdown was coming, as former Vice President Kamala Harris was intent on using her new memoir to get her back into political contention.
The only way she could do that was to toss Joe Biden under the bus.
Yesterday, we reported on the first excerpts of her book, and I noted that she gently nudged Biden in front of the bus while not fully holding him down while it ran him over. Well, newly released excerpts put her in that exact spot, and Biden’s world is not happy with her right now.
As always happens with these books, excerpts come out in dribs and drabs before the book is finally released, so we have to be careful about the context.
What is not in question, however, is that Harris is now blaming Biden’s team for everything that went wrong with her vice presidency, openly stating that the former president's team did not give her a chance to succeed and even facilitated the development of negative narratives in the media about her.
For instance, she wrote, “Worse, I often learned that the president’s staff was adding fuel to negative narratives that sprang up around me. One narrative that took a stubborn hold was that I had a ‘chaotic’ office and unusually high staff turnover during my first year.”
Harris whined how she secured more than $5 billion from outside investors, yet she was being made out to be the reason why we had an open border, writing, “Instead, I shouldered the blame for the porous border, an issue that had proved intractable for Democratic and Republican administrations alike. Even the breathtaking cruelty of Trump’s family-separation policy hadn’t deterred the desperate. It was an issue that absolutely demanded bipartisan cooperation at an impossibly partisan, most uncooperative time.”
Fox News’ Kayleigh McEnany unloaded on Harris, blasting the misinformation contained in her book.
She stated, “’Intractable,’ false. ‘Bipartisan cooperation,’ false. Within the first 100 days of President Trump becoming president, he took executive action. Democrats didn’t work with him, this wasn’t an intractable problem. He solved it. He shut down people coming across the border, got-aways, he solved the problem with a pen.”
McEnany continued, “She could’ve advocated for the same. And don’t tell me the president’s staff didn’t advocate for you. In fact, the president’s staff saw your incompetence. That’s why there were whispers around the West Wing about Pete Buttigeig being the actual successor. There are stories about this, and not Kamala Harris. They saw incompetence. That is not a problem of the president, that is a problem that is deeply personal.”
Even Whoopi Goldberg of The View blasted Harris on this front, stating, “Listen, you know, people love to go back and say what we should have done, what we should have done. We should have run a better campaign. We should’ve run a better campaign, people wanted to hear what they heard. They got what they wanted. I don’t understand why we got to re-litigate it. It happened and now we’re all sitting in it and it’s everybody’s fault.”
As the excerpts were being published, Biden’s allies started to respond, and it would appear that a beef between these two camps has fully erupted.
One former Biden official fired back, “Vice President Harris was simply not good at the job. She had basically zero substantive role in any of the administration’s key work streams, and instead would just dive bomb in for stilted photo ops that exposed how out of depth she was.”
Another Biden aide added, “On the border stuff in particular, I’d also say, if she had spent a fraction of the time and energy doing the work that she did on complaining, about how she was perceived, she would have been perceived a whole lot better.”
Harris was warned that the Biden team had bombs it was not afraid to set off if she went after the former president. Well, she did, and those bombs just exploded. It is hard to imagine Harris having any kind of political comeback after this, at least not in time to have an impact in the 2028 election. But just remember this -- the same people firing shots at Harris now were all telling us what a great job she was doing when she was in office. Hypocrites, liars, call them whatever you want, just know they are in the habit of not telling us the truth.
