Citizens push back against Illinois governor, Chicago mayor on city's crime epidemic

Recently, President Donald Trump suggested federalizing Chicago to help combat escalating violent crime.

He did so after his efforts in Washington, D.C. began paying huge dividends.

Both the mayor of Chicago and the governor of Illinois have rejected Trump’s help, but they may want to start listening to their voters.

The mayor

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson told voters while on the campaign trail that crime would be aggressively addressed during his tenure, but he has only enabled lawbreakers even more since taking office.

He is flat-out rejecting the idea of the feds helping his police force to get a control of rising crime in the Windy City, and he is blatantly ignoring his constituents on this front just to score political points.

Johnson, in part, stated, “This president is trampling on our constitution. He’s behaving in a way that is undermining our democracy, and he’s trying to get us to submit our humanity to his will. That’s not what we’re going to do in the city of Chicago.”

He continued, “We’re going to stand up for working people, make the necessary investments, hold the people accountable who are causing harm."

The covernor

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker has been no better, seemingly more worried about further gerrymandering his electoral maps than he is about addressing crime in Chicago, where dozens were shot over the holiday weekend.

Trump pounced, posting, “Pritzker needs help badly, he just doesn’t know it yet. I will solve the crime problem fast, just like I did in DC. Chicago will be safe again, & soon. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Pritzker responded, “I'm aware that the President likes to go on television and beg me to call him to ask for troops. I find it strange as Chicago doesn't want troops.”

The governor then accused Trump of lying to him on this front, stating, “I also have experience asking him for assistance -- just to have the rug pulled up from underneath me when execution meets reality.”

Residents speak

Pritzker offered no proof of his claim, but I would highly recommend that he do so after hearing comments from Chicago residents, many of whom are asking for Trump’s help.

For instance, one Chicago local stated, "When I've been growing up actually, it wasn't really as bad as it is today. When I was growing up back in the early 2000s… it was bad, but the kids nowadays, they're just wreaking havoc in all of the neighborhoods.”

Another man stated, "We need, I'd say, about 10,000 police. Me, personally, we do need mental health. Now, here's the thing. If you want to have mental health and have a mental hospital, get these illegals out of here.”

I have been watching Chicago town halls and city meetings lately, and in just about every case, there are residents confronting Johnson about the situation, and he laughs them off, does not pay attention, and simply dismisses their concerns. The only way to beat this man is to vote him out of office and insist on change, and not just with another far-left liberal. Democrats have run that city since 1931, so perhaps it's time to put a Republican in office to see if they can clean up the city.
