Bill de Blasio, the former mayor of New York City, was about as progressive as it gets, fully buying into every new and extreme narrative the Democratic Party was pitching.
After leaving office, however, he seemed to tighten things up a bit, calling out Dems over Joe Biden's performance and saying they needed to be more honest about crime.
Yet, he just endorsed Zohran Mamdani for his old job, despite the mayoral candidate's past statements suggesting that certain crimes need not even be prosecuted.
After it became clear that Biden was not all there, de Blasio stunningly said that the Democrats should have been more honest about the then-president's mental state.
At the time, he stated, "Let‘s be honest, we‘ve got to be more honest. Part of what happened here is the American people were pissed off that they felt the Democratic Party was covering for Joe Biden.”
He continued, “They were already upset with Joe Biden on a substantive level, not always fairly, but they were on things like inflation. And people are hurting,"
The former mayor was right, shockingly, and I could not believe he came out and said such things.
Dems fell for Trump’s trap and started to rail against the idea of cracking down on violent crime, but again, de Blasio had a different take, stating, “I think it’s always a fair question with Democrats, are we doing everything that we can, constitutionally and appropriately, to fight crime?”
He continued, “And I think the Democratic Party has to look at this issue much more honestly and say, hey, there are some places where we should be doing better, our leaders should be doing better.”
Of course, he took the obligatory shot at Trump, but this was progress in my eyes, as Democrats were finally starting to understand there could be a middle ground here.
Here we had a high-profile Democrat giving up two major narratives that most of his own party was pushing. We were making headway, right? Wrong!
A report recently came out that Mamdani wants to end misdemeanor charges, a move which, as history has proven, just leads to criminals growing bolder with their offenses.
Yet, de Blasio says he likes his approach, stating, “We don’t just need Zohran Mamdani to be our mayor because he has the right ideas, or because they can be achieved.”
He added, “We need him because in his heart and in his bones he cannot accept a city that prices out the people who built it and keep it running.”
Yet, if Mamdani's agenda is implemented, New Yorkers would see significantly higher taxes, likely chasing out wealthier residents who are already footing most of the bills for the city. These people have only one standard… do whatever it takes to maintain power.
