A report recently broke about Kenneth Mejia, the Los Angeles city controller, who is facing pushback from Democrats after exposing a staffing and funding shortfall.
Meija has been under fire from Democrats, who are mercilessly attacking him to try to shut down the story.
The irony of this, of course, is how Democrats defended people such as Lt. Col. Vindman when he was whistleblowing against Trump.
Lt. Colonel Vindman garnered national headlines when he testified during Trump’s first round of impeachment hearings.
To me, it seemed like he was someone with an agenda, and I thought there was more than enough testimony to discount most of what he claimed, but Democrats fully embraced him because he was willing to take down the bad orange man.
Vindman was eventually removed from his post, which had Democrats making him out to be a hero for having dared to expose Trump’s allegedly corrupt activities.
For instance, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) stated, “President Trump is impeached forever. The shameful firing of Colonel Vindman was a clear and brazen act of retaliation that showcases the President’s fear of the truth. History will remember Lieutenant Colonel Vindman as an American hero.”
Now let’s put the shoe on the other foot, to whistleblowers inside the FBI who came forward about how biased the investigation against Trump and his campaign was.
As one example, Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-CA) was questioning FBI Staff Operations Specialist Marcus Allen, citing a post on X, which, although Allen informed her that the account was not his, she continued, “An account under the name Marcus Allen retweeted a tweet that said -- ” The post claimed that Pelosi staged Jan. 6, an assertion to which she was trying to link Allen via the X post, and even though he told her he did not agree with the post, the attacks against him kept coming.
Former FBI special agent Steve Friend came under fire from Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) for having published a book detailing his ordeal of acting as a whistleblower, which included his suspension from the FBI. She told him, “You are engaging in the self-promotion of your new book that is about to be released. What great timing to be on TV and in Congress right before your book tour starts. It’s quite coincidental.”
The attacks continued by the Democrat members of the committee, who were more interested in crushing the character of the whistleblower than in investigating the claims.
Mejia is now facing something similar after releasing a report on waste, fraud, and abuse. After the report came out, Meija maintained that his budget was trimmed, costing his department 27 positions, resulting in the department's understaffing and inability to carry out its duties.
He stated, “Did you know that my Office oversees OVER $35 BILLION as the city’s independent financial watchdog? Unfortunately, we are nowhere near being sufficiently staffed to provide that independent oversight that YOU all voted for because of the way the City Charter currently is."
Mejia continued, “That is why I am asking for your help! Help us STRENGTHEN the Controller’s Office so that we can fulfill our role as the City’s independent financial watchdog – accountable to the PEOPLE, YOU!”
I have never been a fan of any party bashing whistleblowers, as I believe they need to be heard and their claims investigated. Sadly, our current political environment is so charged that if you report against the bad orange man, it is all taken as fact. But if you dare to question anything that Democrats are doing, you are deemed a conspiracy theorist or someone guilty of weaponizing the system for retribution.
