In one of yesterday’s reports, we noted that Elon Musk is reportedly ending his beef with the administration and is now looking forward to supporting JD Vance in the 2028 presidential election. While Vance denied the report, he did offer an encouraging message to Musk, making me believe that there are some backroom discussions taking place…
Today’s “thought” centered around education and the role that parents and teachers should be playing in the development of their children from a conservative perspective, and I have to say, this was the most passionate response we have received from both sides, so I wanted to give both a conservative and a liberal response to the post.
Paul J. from Provo, UT, is the conservative response, stating:
“To answer your question: No, our society is not healthy, and the reason is that we've forgotten that the family is the bedrock of civilization. The Left wants the ‘village’ to raise the child because it's easier to control the outcome and push an agenda. But a teacher can't replace a mother or a father.
“The moral and spiritual guidance you mention is a sacred duty given to parents, not to a school board or a government bureaucrat. We are in a fight to reclaim that fundamental right, and it's a fight we absolutely have to win.”
For liberals, the response we chose comes from Eleanor R. of Cambridge, MA:
“This framing of ‘parents vs. the village’ is a dangerous and simplistic narrative. No one is trying to replace parents. The ‘village’ -- which is really just a society that invests in its future -- exists to support parents and provide a safety net for all children. A child's success shouldn't be limited by the lottery of who their parents are.
“A great public-school teacher, a librarian who opens up a new world of ideas, a coach who teaches teamwork -- these are all vital parts of a child's development, especially when a child's home life may be lacking. This isn't a sinister plot for government control; it's how a compassionate and intelligent society ensures that every child has the opportunity to thrive.”
I appreciate Eleanor’s comments, but I think she missed the entire point of the thought. While I agree that coaches and teachers play a significant role, that is only true if they stay in their lane. In many liberal states today, we are seeing teachers keep information from the parents of the children, effectively making parental decisions, and I don’t see how you can deny that they are overstepping their boundaries when doing so. I look forward to continuing this conversation, though, Eleanor.
