Well, the Trump administration stated that it was going to crack down on crime in Washington, D.C..
The rule of law is clearly winning the day, as Fox News’ Bret Baier just found out.
This is a rather more lighthearted post than we usually make, but it also has a very serious narrative to explore.
When President Donald Trump announced that he was going to federalize D.C. to crack down on crime, the entire left had a meltdown.
The situation was not helped by the fact that Trump was citing crime data that was nearly two years old in order to make his case.
That aside, the fact of the matter is that while crime rates are reportedly going down, if you look at rates from a decade ago, the city is still in a pretty bad spot, which even Democrat Mayor Muriel Bowser admitted.
Bowser stated that some very bad pockets in the city needed to be addressed, and hopefully, that is where the feds concentrate some of their efforts.
One common theme we have seen over the years is the manipulation of crime data that is reported to the public.
If you have ever watched The Wire, you know the phrase “juking the stats,” and I have used that here quite often. It is very easy for police leadership to reclassify crimes to soften the numbers, and that is what the Trump administration is looking into now.
On Monday, Trump posted to Truth Social that he believes this was happening, writing, "D.C. gave Fake Crime numbers in order to create a false illusion of safety. This is a very bad and dangerous thing to do, and they are under serious investigation for so doing! Until 4 days ago, Washington, D.C., was the most unsafe ‘city' in the United States, and perhaps the World.”
Trump continued, “Now, in just a short period of time, it is perhaps the safest, and getting better every single hour! People are flocking to D.C. again, and soon, the beautification will begin!"
I think that is a bit of an overstatement by Trump, as D.C. is far from being the safest city in the country, but there is no denying the fact that the feds are taking some dangerous characters off the street. I really just wish Trump would dial it down a bit rather than making statements like this, which can easily be proven false.
The internet was buzzing on Monday when Baier was pulled over in D.C. for distracted driving, as he had taken a phone call while he was navigating his vehicle down the street. The stop was captured on video…
LOL! No criminal is safe in DC! Bret Baier just got popped. 🤣pic.twitter.com/HBBdLPVT4J

Baier explained, “He pointed to have me pull over -- I did. He was very professional. I had to dig for the registration card. Got a ticket and left. I didn’t know there was paparazzi.”
I would also make one more note regarding Trump’s assertions about crime in the capital. He is making claims based on numbers that he is now fighting. Also, reporting of new numbers can sometimes be delayed, so making an announcement like his just one week into any initiative is premature, but that is how Trump likes to operate. It’s about making a splash and grabbing headlines, and he is definitely doing that.
