Top Obama-era official hands Donald Trump a major win

Jeh Johnson served as the secretary of Homeland Security during the Obama administration, but he has been, at least somewhat, a voice of reason regarding the past and present Trump administrations.

Don’t get me wrong, as he has hit Trump on occasion, but he has also applauded Trump when he thinks he is on the right side of the argument.

Johnson is now gushing over Trump, and he is not the only former top-ranking Democrat administration staffer to be doing so.

Trump secured the border

For much of the Biden administration, every border official and Joe Biden lied to the American people about the border being secure.

Every month, hundreds of thousands of illegals crossed over, with a conservative estimate of more than eight million crossing the border during the Biden administration, all of which has ceased since Trump took office.

Johnson admitted that for the first time in years, our border is secure. He stated, “The numbers, now, are something like, last time I looked, 12,000 a month. The prior administration sometimes saw that in a day. If President Trump said, I’ve secured the border, that would be a legitimate statement to make, because the numbers now are the lowest in recorded history. Now, let me take that a step further, I think this President has an opportunity…at -- and a lot of people won’t want to hear this — comprehensive immigration reform."

He added,“Just like a Nixon goes to China moment or a Reagan discusses with the Soviet Union arms control, he is in a position to bring along a lot of Republicans and Democrats, at some point before the midterms, at an effort at comprehensive immigration reform to fix the broken system.”

Work with Trump

Johnson did not stop there, either, as he called on sanctuary cities and states to start working with the administration rather than fighting back all the time.

He stated, “I personally would talk to the mayor of New York, the mayor of Philadelphia, and the mayor of dozens of other cities and say, you have to work with us. Don’t wait for there to be a tragic incident in your city before you decide you need to work with ICE. Let’s make this relationship work now.”

He then offered some advice for immigration officers, stating, “I would counsel our immigration enforcement personnel, when they’re out in the streets, doing their job, looking for undocumented — specifically the criminals, to use common sense in these communities, which are very often blue communities that start off from a position where they don’t want to work with ICE. So, my advice is you have to use your common sense.”

I tend to agree with him on this, as I think we have gotten so wrapped up in quotas that are, essentially, useless. Due process is going to have deportations moving at a snail’s pace, so why tie up the system with non-violent offenders now? Don't get me wrong, I want all illegals deported (I have actually published an immigration reform proposal in another report), but we need to get these hardcore criminals processed first, so let’s get them in custody and before a judge.

Johnson not alone

In addition to Johnson, former Biden and Clinton official Jamie Metzl came out to praise Trump’s strikes on Iran this week.

He stated, “I’m a Democrat…I served for President Clinton. I actually worked for Joe Biden in the Senate, but this has been an incredible week for President Trump and for our country. He struck Iran’s nuclear sites and then immediately forced a ceasefire that was not inevitable in any way. “

Metzl also went on to applaud Trump getting NATO allies to increase their defense spending, but he was not done. He also called out Democrats, stating, “And we should criticize, I don’t know if you have played for your viewers the tape from last Saturday night, Bernie Sanders in Tulsa, Oklahoma, when the news came about the American strikes, you would’ve thought that this was 9/11 by the mourning of these people who were clearly rooting against America.”

With nearly half of the Democrats in the House calling for a Trump impeachment over the strikes, these words have to cut to the bone for the current class of Democrats. I love the fact that these individuals are not sitting on their hands. It truly gives Democrat voters something to think about as we head into the 2026 election, as officials from their hero administrations are openly admitting it is the GOP that is the party of common sense and America-first policies.
