Actor Chad Lowe’s 13-year-old daughter Fiona has been confirmed to have died by suicide at a hospital, leaving her family heartbroken and asking the public for prayers and privacy.

A medical examiner’s report obtained by Page Six confirmed the cause of death for the teenager, who died at the hospital on Tuesday. Her parents, Chad Lowe and Kim Painter, announced the loss in a family statement on Sept. 29.

Fiona was the second-oldest of three daughters. Her sisters are Mabel, 17, and Nixie, 10.

The family described a loving child cut down far too soon.

In their statement, they said: “We are deeply heartbroken by the loss of our beloved Fiona. She was a loving young girl who was smart, creative and loved to dance.”

"She was adored by her sisters and she was deeply loved by her parents. In fact, she was the light of our lives. Her passing is devastating for our entire family and we ask for prayers and privacy at this time."

The family also shared the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline for anyone struggling.

Friends, school, and a grandfather’s goodbye

A source who spoke after her death called Fiona a “very well-liked student” who had “a lot of friends.”

The principal at the school she attended emailed parents about the death without naming the student. The message offered counseling resources to students and staff who needed emotional support.

On Wednesday, her grandfather, Charles “Chuck” Lowe, posted a tribute with a photo of Fiona in a swimming pool. He wrote: “Rest in peace, sweet Fiona.”

Chad Lowe, known for his work on “Pretty Little Liars” and as a TV director, had long spoken publicly about being a “girl dad.” Last November, he celebrated her birthday online as she officially became a teenager.

“Celebrating Fiona officially becoming a teen today!! Keep dancing through life FiBear! Love you soooo much!!” he wrote then.

Those words now sit against a family’s sudden and public grief. No further details from the medical examiner’s report beyond the cause and the hospital setting have been released. The family has asked for space to mourn.

Parents who have watched a bright child grow, dance, and fill a house with noise know how thin the line can feel between ordinary days and irreversible loss. When a 13-year-old is gone, the only honest response is sorrow, prayer for the family, and help for anyone else hanging by a thread, call or text 988.
