A woman believed to be in her 60s was found dead with unexplained trauma in Central Park on Sunday morning, and police have made no arrests as the investigation continues.
Officers answered a 911 call about an unconscious person in New York City’s Central Park at about 9:43 a.m. Sunday. First responders found the woman unconscious and unresponsive and pronounced her dead at the scene.
Fox News reported that police said she had suffered trauma to her body. Officials have not released further details on the injuries, the cause of death, or how she ended up there.
As of the latest reporting, the woman has not been publicly identified. No arrests have been made. The investigation remains open.
Police secured a path in the park and taped off a gazebo area while the probe got underway. An NYPD Crime Scene Unit van was on site. A New York City medical examiner vehicle was also present near the park during the investigation.
Fox News Digital reached out to the NYPD for confirmation and updates. Further official detail on the trauma or the circumstances has not been released.
That leaves the public with a thin set of facts: a Sunday morning 911 call, a woman in her 60s dead at the scene, apparent trauma, and an active case with no one in custody.
Frequent visitors who spoke after the discovery said the park usually feels safe, and that the police activity stood out.
One frequent parkgoer put it this way:
"Terrifying. I think of the park as a very safe place any time of day or night, so absolutely terrifying,"
She added:
"My heart goes out to her family and friends."
She said she had never had an experience in the park that made her fearful, sees this as an isolated incident, and plans to keep visiting daily.
A frequent park runner offered a similar reaction:
"It's terrible. It's just terrible news,"
The runner said the area is usually safe, called the police presence unusual, and said it would not keep them from returning to the park.
Basic questions remain unanswered in public reporting. Who was she? What specific trauma did she suffer? Was the death a homicide, an accident, or something else? Exactly where in the park did officers find her beyond the secured path and taped-off gazebo?
Until the NYPD and the medical examiner release more, those gaps stay open. Park users are left with yellow tape, a death on a Sunday morning, and an investigation that has produced no arrests.
A city park is supposed to be a place where ordinary people walk without looking over their shoulder. When a woman dies there with unexplained trauma and no one is in custody, the bare minimum the public is owed is a full accounting, and real answers, not silence.
