Florida DSA Senate candidate Angie Nixon paid a social media manager who praised Hamas as “freedom fighters” and called for Zionists to die, campaign finance records show.
Breitbart reported that Sara Mahmoud worked as social media manager for Nixon’s U.S. Senate campaign and drew $8,400 in pay between June and July, according to FEC filings cited through Fox Digital. Mahmoud was with the campaign as recently as June and is no longer on staff.
The same reporting laid out a trail of Mahmoud’s older social media posts that celebrated Hamas, targeted “Zionists,” and used raw ethnic language against Jews. Nixon is running in Florida as a Democratic Socialists of America candidate while advancing a hard-left platform.
Voters now have a clear staffing record to weigh alongside the candidate’s own words on CAIR Florida, ICE, and socialist branding.
Fox Digital material cited in the reporting shows Mahmoud wrote in 2018: “Glory and honor to our freedom fighters. Praying for their safety and success.” That post landed the same day Hamas fired as many as 400 rockets from the Gaza Strip into Israel.
Another 2018 message framed the land claim in open Hamas terms:
"Palestine is the land of the Arab Palestinian people, from it they originate, to it they adhere and belong, and about it they reach out and communicate. #Hamas31 #WhatsHamas"
A now-deleted post asked, “Can Zionists die already?” In 2016 she wrote, “Wow, white Jews are so entitled lmfaoooo please die.” A further post declared Zionism “a form of white nationalism, period,” and dismissed people who contested that line.
Those statements are not vague mood posts. They name Hamas, celebrate fighters, and wish death on Zionists and “white Jews.” A Senate campaign still put the author on payroll as social media manager and cut her checks totaling $8,400 across June and July.
Nixon’s own remarks pushed CAIR Florida as organizational muscle. She said:
"We need to start working on building the right vehicles. And the right vehicles are CAIR Florida. We can’t just build party. We have to build up our people in order to build up our country. And so, right now is a time where we need to breathe, but we do need to take some time and make space. And then come together and start having uncomfortable conversations."
The timing of those remarks is not clear in the available record. The substance is. She named CAIR Florida as the vehicle for building political power in the state.
That pitch runs straight into a Florida policy wall. Gov. Ron DeSantis last year signed an executive order designating both CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood as foreign terrorist organizations. The order directed state agencies to act:
"Florida agencies are hereby directed to undertake all lawful measures to prevent unlawful activities by these organizations, including denying privileges or resources to anyone providing material support."
One side of Florida politics treated those groups as security risks. Nixon told allies to treat CAIR Florida as the right political vehicle. Her campaign, in the same broader period, paid a staffer whose feed praised Hamas fighters and called for Zionists to die.
Nixon has tried to downplay her DSA ties even as she runs under that banner for U.S. Senate. The staffing choice fits the same ideological lane rather than a moderate reset.
She embraces abolishing ICE, funding universal health care, and implementing universal childcare and pre-kindergarten. She has also categorized President Donald Trump as “basically a communist.” The reporting notes she frequently quotes Assata Shakur, described there as a Marxist cop killer.
Her DSA-backed primary path already signaled where the coalition sits. Paying a social media manager with a record of Hamas praise and eliminationist rhetoric about Zionists extends that signal into day-to-day campaign operations.
Separate controversies have followed the same leftward line, from election-rule overhaul talk to cultural fights that leave mainstream parents cold. The staffer episode is not an isolated personnel glitch. It matches a candidate who names CAIR Florida as a vehicle, floats abolishing ICE, and keeps socialist machinery close while asking voters to look past it.
FEC filings cited through Fox Digital show the money trail: $8,400 to Mahmoud between June and July for social media manager work, with her still attached as recently as June. The posts predating that hire were not subtle, and at least one calling for Zionists to die was later deleted.
Senate campaigns control who speaks in their name online. They also control who gets paid to shape that voice. Nixon’s operation hired and paid someone whose feed gave “glory and honor” to Hamas fighters on a heavy rocket day and trafficked in death wishes aimed at Zionists and Jews.
Florida families living with the DeSantis order’s security premise did not get a careful distance from that record. They got a DSA Senate candidate who elevated CAIR Florida in public remarks and cut campaign checks to a staffer with this history. Other flashes of the same politics, including her defense of drag shows around children and rent-control word games, fill out the picture of who she intends to represent.
The personnel file is now public. So are the posts, the pay figure, the CAIR Florida pitch, and the ICE abolition stance. Florida voters can read the stack without translation.
A party that cannot screen out Hamas praise from its paid comms shop is telling working taxpayers exactly whose interests come first.
