Kai Trump trades Jupiter for Miami — and her first week of college hit back hard

President Trump's 19-year-old granddaughter Kai Trump documented a tearful goodbye, an empty fridge, and a bout of strep throat in a YouTube vlog chronicling her rocky first days as a freshman on the University of Miami women's golf team.

Kai, the elder daughter of Donald Trump Jr. and Vanessa Trump, posted the video to her YouTube channel, walking viewers through her final hours at home in Jupiter, Florida, her move-in day in Miami, and a first week that went sideways fast. The vlog captures a young athlete caught between excitement and homesickness, and then leveled by illness before she could settle in.

The video opens with Kai driving home from what she described as one of her last rounds of golf in Jupiter. She was already in tears.

"It's just, like, really sad that I have to say goodbye to, like, everyone today. I'm not, like, a very emotional person at all, so this is, like, really weird for me to cry."

She added that she was "struggling" but also excited about the chapter ahead. For a young woman who has spent much of the past two years in the public eye, appearing at rallies, building a social-media following, and competing in junior golf, the move to a college campus marked a shift into something closer to ordinary life.

An empty apartment, a 7 a.m. wake-up, and no groceries

Kai's best friend, identified only as Emma, helped her move into her Miami apartment and stocked the kitchen with frozen foods. The gesture was not just friendly, it was necessary. Kai told her audience she had barely been eating during the chaos of the transition.

"Emma got me some frozen foods because I haven't eaten in like three days."

The remark was casual, not a cry for help. But it captured a detail any parent or former college freshman would recognize: the gap between leaving a home where the refrigerator is full and arriving at a bare apartment where nothing is set up yet.

Her first Monday brought a 7 a.m. team meeting with the University of Miami women's golf program. Kai filmed herself getting ready in the early-morning dark, looking drained.

"I'm very tired if you guys cannot tell by my face."

She also unveiled her official 2026, 2027 season gear, apparel and specialized practice equipment issued by the program. The haul was a tangible marker: she was no longer a recruit. She was on the roster.

Her first team practice followed shortly after. For a golfer who committed to a Division I program with a national audience already watching, the transition from junior circuits to collegiate competition is a real step up in structure, accountability, and daily grind.

Strep throat sent her back to Jupiter by Wednesday

The week did not last long. By Wednesday, just days into the semester, Kai said she came down with strep throat.

"I got sick with strep on Wednesday, my first week of school."

Rather than ride it out in her new apartment, she drove back to Jupiter so her mother could take care of her.

"I came all the way back to Jupiter because I was so sick. I needed, like, my mom to nurse me back to health."

Vanessa Trump, who has been public about her own battle with breast cancer, stepped back into the caretaker role. Fox News Digital reported on Kai's vlog and her family's recent developments, noting that Vanessa was also seen arriving alongside golfer Tiger Woods at his plea conference hearing in Stuart, Florida, on September 2, 2026. Woods faces a DUI case stemming from a rollover crash in Florida that occurred in March.

A freshman finding her footing in public view

Kai Trump is not the first 19-year-old to cry on move-in day, skip meals during the chaos, or call her mom when she got sick. What makes her experience different is the camera, and the last name.

She has built a sizable YouTube following by letting viewers into moments most public figures would keep private. The college vlog fits that pattern. It is unpolished, scattered, and honest in the way content from a teenager with a ring light tends to be. No speechwriters. No handlers. Just a kid adjusting.

For conservative readers who watched Kai campaign alongside her grandfather and father, the video is a reminder that behind the political spectacle sits a family dealing with the same milestones every family faces, new schools, empty apartments, strep prescriptions, and a mother who still knows how to make it better.

College is supposed to be hard. The fact that Kai Trump is willing to show that it is, tears, bare fridge, and all, says more about her than any rally speech ever could.
