Today’s thought was about how our politicians continue to kick the can down the road on major issues, such as sanctuary cities, national debt, and homelessness in this country. I asked who was to blame: the voters who elect them or the politicians. Walter B. from Montana responded:
“It is a hard truth to swallow, but the blame falls squarely on the voters. Politicians are simply doing whatever it takes to keep their jobs. They know perfectly well that if they actually propose slashing the budget or making the tough calls to fix these massive problems, folks will throw a fit and vote them out the second their own favorite programs are touched.
“We all complain about the debt, but nobody wants to be the one to sacrifice anything to fix it. We are actively stealing from our own grandchildren just so we can live comfortably right now. Until we grow up, accept some short-term pain, and start electing leaders who tell us the hard truths instead of handing out comfortable lies, Washington is just going to keep maxing out the credit card.”
