The Garfield County Sheriff's Office announced Monday that Tyler Boebert, a resident of New Castle, Colorado, faces charges of sexual exploitation of a child along with multiple additional charges that authorities have not yet detailed. He was arrested Sunday and released from jail on bond the same day, USA TODAY reported.
The arrest followed an investigation conducted jointly by the Garfield County Sheriff's Office and the 9th Judicial District Attorney's Office, the agency that handles felony prosecutions across several counties in western Colorado. Authorities did not disclose what prompted the investigation, how long it lasted, or the identity of any alleged victims.
Rep. Lauren Boebert, who has represented Colorado's 4th Congressional District since first joining Congress in 2021, responded with a brief statement to USA TODAY:
"I love my son. We take these allegations very seriously and pray for everyone affected during this challenging time."
She did not address the specifics of the charges or the investigation.
The sheriff's office news release left significant gaps. The exact nature of the "multiple other charges" beyond sexual exploitation of a child has not been made public.
