Whatever was left of Joe Biden’s legacy just got tossed into the shredder right along with the remaining thread of Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan.
The courts have ruled that Biden’s income-based repayment plan will end.
Finally, we can put this all to bed.
Biden’s entire student loan forgiveness plan was nothing more than an effort to buy votes with taxpayer money.
When the money is owed to the government, it is not forgiven but rather absorbed by the taxpayer.
Biden promised to “forgive” billions in loans, but his plan was illegal, per a Supreme Court ruling on the case.
So Biden decided to use every possible loophole he could find to piecemeal the forgiveness plan. In the process, he stuck the American taxpayer with billions of dollars in debt that should have been paid by the people who took out the loans.
In December 2025, the Department of Education ruled that Biden’s plan was illegal.
In a press release, the DoE stated, “Today, the U.S. Department of Education announced a proposed joint settlement agreement with the State of Missouri that would end the Biden Administration’s illegal ‘Saving on a Valuable Education’ (SAVE) Plan. The SAVE Plan was the Biden Administration’s third and final attempt at mass federal student loan forgiveness, and it was blocked repeatedly by both district and appeals courts.
“Without congressional authorization, the Biden Administration misled millions of borrowers into the illegal SAVE Plan with false promises of artificially low monthly payments – oftentimes as low as $0 – and a short timeline to student loan ‘forgiveness.’ The SAVE Plan would have cost taxpayers, many of whom did not attend college or already repaid their student loans, more than $342 billion over ten years.”
The decision, of course, was challenged, and that challenge has now been lost.
On Monday, the ruling came down that Biden’s SAVE plan was to be terminated.
There are more than seven million people enrolled in the plan, and they are all about to have sticker shock, but that is on Biden, not the Trump administration (even though we know how the media and Democrats will portray it).
Trump did not leave these people hanging, however, as the Repayment Assistance Plan (RAP) was part of the big, beautiful bill, which will create a sliding scale based on adjusted gross income, giving borrowers 30 years to pay off their loans.
They borrowed the money, so they have to pay it back. It’s that simple. There is no free ride, and it is simply not fair to make every American in this country pay for loans they never took out solely because Biden wanted to buy votes. It worked for Biden, and now everyone who bought into his ruse is paying the price.
