Three former Democrat presidents tried to use Rev. Jesse Jackson’s funeral services as a way to score points against the GOP and Donald Trump, but the civil rights leader's son wanted nothing to do with it.
The worst of these was Barack Obama, who sounded like a southern preacher with his passive-aggressive speech.
After they were done turning the funeral into a political circus, Jackson’s son gave them all a piece of his mind.
Of the three presidents, it was Bill Clinton who made less of a political stance, mostly recalling the friendship the two men shared, or at least that was his claim.
For instance, he stated, “We did not always agree, but I'll tell you one thing, he made me a better president when I got in office, because he was always pushing on things, and he knew that change came from the outside in, and sometimes from the inside out, So he knew how to keep pushing and nagging and wearing you out.”
Biden put his greatest hits together, telling the same sorry tales he has told a million different times. He was the only white guy who worked at the pool in Wilmington. He talked about his days in Scranton. Then, of course, Joe pandered to the black crowd.
Then there was vintage Joe, stating, “My prayer for everyone here, and I'm cutting my speech very short because I'm afraid I'm going to be attacked. So folks, I guess I could say it all in one paragraph, don't give up.” Sounded just like his speeches when he was president and he feared his staff. It was awful.
Obama was the worst of them all, sounding like a southern preacher getting the congregation all riled up to go after the devil, only the devil in this case, while unnamed, was clearly Donald Trump.
For instance, he stated, “Every day you wake up to things you just didn’t think were possible, Each day, we’re told by those in high office to fear each other, and to turn on each other.
“And that some Americans count more than others. And that some don’t even count at all. Everywhere we see greed and bigotry being celebrated and bullying and mockery masquerading as strength.”
How many times have Democrats called conservatives Nazis? How often do they ignore our immigration laws for political gain? How often have Democrats told their constituents to rise up and fight, even calling for them to battle it out in the streets? Obama was attacking the right, but what he was really doing was describing his party.
I won’t say that the three former presidents did not know Jesse Jackson, but they were not the friends they pretended to be, and I can say this because of the words spoken the next day by Jesse Jackson Jr.
He stated, "Yesterday I listened for several hours of three United States presidents who do not know Jesse Jackson.” He continued, "He maintained a tense relationship with the political order, not because the presidents were White or Black, but the demands of our message, the demands of speaking for the least of these — those who are disinherited, the damned, the dispossessed, the disrespected — demanded not Democratic or Republican solutions, but demanded a consistent, prophetic voice that at no point in time sold us out as a people.”
After his father’s death, Jackson asked everyone attending not to bring politics to his father’s funeral, welcoming Republicans and Democrats to attend if they wished.
Donald Trump did not attend, even though he had a relationship with Jackson long before any of these men, as a businessman in New York. He knew what would happen, and at least he had the decency to stay away. I think we can give Bill Clinton a pass on this one, but Biden, to a degree, and clearly Barack Obama put family wishes aside and went for the political throat. It was an audience and a microphone as far as he was concerned, not a church and a grieving family. Obama had the chance to score points, and he took the shot. Thankfully, someone finally called him out for it.
