Only weeks before the Texas primary race was set to send voters to the polls, Stephen Colbert claimed his interview with Texas lawmaker James Talarico was spiked, and boy did it drive support for Talarico.
At the time, he had slipped in polling behind Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX).
Colbert played the victim, Talarico raised millions, and then he pulled off a massive upset.
Colbert wanted everyone to think he was being censored, but it was really a big skit.
At the time, he stated, "We were told in no uncertain terms by our network's lawyers, who called us directly, that we could not have him on the broadcast.
"Then, then I was told in some uncertain terms that not only could I not have him on, I could not mention me not having him on. And because my network clearly doesn't want us to talk about this, let's talk about this."
The interview went right to the social media outlets, and Talarico played his part, which resulted in a $2.5 million boom to his campaign war chest and a massive surge in polling.
Talarico had been winning for most of the primary, but Crockett and her boisterous style ended up giving her a massive surge, and suddenly Talarico was behind.
This was a problem for the party because Talarico was outperforming her against the Republican candidates in the race.
This always appeared to be a bit of a power play by the establishment to get their guy into the race rather than all but guarantee a loss with Crockett.
The amusing aspect of all of this was in how Talarico also played the victim, but again, he was just playing his part.
Reports are now surfacing that Talarico knew the interview would not make it on TV even before he left Texas to head to New York.
The Daily Caller reported, “Texas Democrat James Talarico knew his Late Show interview would never make it to television before he boarded a plane to New York City.
“Colbert’s producers told Talarico’s team days before the taping last month that CBS intended to post the conversation online only, according to the New York Times. The campaign chose silence, filming the segment anyway and betting that Colbert would frame the network’s decision as Trump administration censorship.”
This is what election interference looks like in real time. Everyone was duped, except for those of us who have seen the media manipulate this before. Crockett is out there crying about how badly the GOP cheated to keep her out of the race. Young lady, you are looking at the wrong people. You need to look at your competition and Mr. Colbert because that is who rigged this race against you.
