Amid massive attacks by her party and Democrats, Attorney General Pam Bondi came out swinging on Thursday, announcing more Epstein files would be released.
After the announcement that DHS Secretary Kristi Noem was being replaced, this move by Bondi almost feels offensive in nature. This could be her trying to save her job from this onslaught from Congress, or perhaps she knows her time is limited, so she is taking a shot at Trump on the way out knowing full well the venom will fly if Trump has to fire her.
With Trump having made his position clear on the Epstein files, I can’t help but think that Bondi could be next.
I predicted this would happen several weeks ago, so the fact that Noem is stepping down and being replaced did not shock me at all. Quite frankly, it never should have taken this long.
Trump is allowing Noem to save face, however, by appointing her as his Envoy for The Shield of the Americas.
What surprised me was that her replacement was not Tom Homan, which tells me Homan does not want the job.
Instead, Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) is being tapped, putting the Republican Party in a bit of a pickle in terms of keeping control of the Senate. The governor can appoint someone to take the seat or call for a special election, and with so little time left, I would imagine this will be an appointment. But now we have to defend a seat without an incumbent, which means more money will be spent.
Republicans have been coming after Bondi hard on several fronts, which is why my gut tells me that Bondi will either be fired or forced to resign soon.
This week, five Republicans walked across the aisle to vote with Democrats to require Bondi to testify on the Hill regarding the Epstein files.
Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) did not hold back, posting to X, “AG Bondi claims the DOJ has released all of the Epstein files. The record is clear: they have not.”
The DOJ did not immediately respond to the allegation, but Bondi made a move on Thursday to push back against the Democrats and a handful of Republicans coming after her.
Early Thursday morning, it was announced that another 47,000 files are being released, putting Bondi in a very interesting situation. This might get Congress off her back, but now she has to worry about upsetting Trump again.
This batch reportedly includes more unproven allegations against President Trump, so I cannot imagine that is going to sit well with our president.
The DOJ had been required to release all Epstein files after the Epstein Files Transparency Act was passed, but Bondi missed the deadline, claiming there were too many files to vet before the given date.
She then came out and said all the files had been released, but now they have mysteriously found nearly another 50,000 of them. Bondi has to be on thin ice with Trump at this point, so my gut tells me the next head to be placed into the guillotine will be hers. This seems to be more of a blip during the second go-around than the norm, however. Honestly, other than Bondi and Noem, Trump has avoided the drama internally that plagued his first administration.
