Every single Democrat in Congress over the last two days has told you this strike was illegal. Every one of them, except Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA). He dared to do what they would not, which is to tell the truth.
Even better, the Pennsylvania Democrat offered a sound reason, and there was no hesitation behind his decision.
This is not only vindication for Trump, but it also shows hope that perhaps we can move past the venom and vitriol in politics to present a united front during a time of crisis.
The fact that Democrats are denouncing something that the bad orange man has done is not surprising. However, the way they are doing it is utterly disgusting and insulting.
They are cherry-picking lines from the War Powers Resolution to make it appear as though Trump is doing something illegal (he is not). They are assuming that the average person in this country does not actually know the law (I do).
They are also making this a war about morality. For instance, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) stated, “In no world do I see this being acceptable for our values.”
If our values are demeaning and raping women, killing members of the LGBTQ+ community for sport, and mowing down innocent people by the tens of thousands, then yes, this goes against our values.
Most Republicans are digging in for this fight, and they should be. However, I have seen pushback by some MAGA people that this is “not” America First.
So, then, let me ask you… Is allowing a terrorist regime to develop a nuclear program to carry out attacks against our country in the future America First?
I am all about America First, and I hate wars, but I am a realist in that I realize you sometimes must go out and get the bad guy on his turf before he brings the fight to your turf.
Any Republican portraying this conflict as a declaration of war is a fool who is regurgitating Democrat talking points. Like or hate Trump, they should be supporting Operation Epic Fury for what it is… a strategic short-term operation to bring a terrorist nation to its knees. If you can’t support this, then you will never have my backing again.
On this issue, Sen. Fetterman sounds more like a conservative than Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME). Collins may be a necessary evil to keep the majority in the Senate, but I long for the day we can primary her with a moderate Republican who can win that state and support the office of the presidency when calls like this need to be made.
To my point, Fetterman stated, “Imagine if people just listened to the conventional wisdom, that they could have possibly have acquired a bomb if we weren’t bombed back in June. So, yes, there is a threat. It’s not imminent that it could happen right now. But it’s one that I think is entirely appropriate to deal with it.
“And that’s why I support it. So, again, people keep— describe that it was a legal war. Now read the War Powers Act. And now, that has not been violated at this point what happened yesterday.”
Fetterman just destroyed every Democrat, Republican, and journalist who has either uttered or allowed someone else to utter the phrase “illegal war” and attached it to the War Powers Act. We are being lied to in grand fashion by all of them. This operation is not illegal until it surpasses 60 days, at which point it would need congressional approval to extend to 90 days or a formal declaration of war. Until then, it is a strategic operation to remove a direct threat against our country and our allies.
