Democrat leadership is being defied by commonsense members of the party.
The leadership strategy is and has been to oppose all things Donald Trump, and it is failing them.
After providing the GOP with election gold during the State of the Union (SOTU) address, some party members are bucking the party line to stand with Trump on his strike against Iran.
Regardless of how I feel about any president, you will never hear me decry a strike against a terrorist state or organization, and that is what Iran is.
For every member of Congress, this should have been a no-brainer, but it was not. But thankfully, most of the GOP are standing behind the president on this one.
Sen. Lyndsey Graham (R-SC) was among them, calling this strike “one of the most consequential military operations in modern history.”
He later added that Donald Trump has “become the gold standard for foreign policy achievements as a Republican president.”
I would have truly thought that Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ), as a former Navy officer, would have supported this operation, but he is spewing the company line.
He stated, “Hope is not a strategy. We got to have a plan here. I mean, what is the strategic goal, and how do we achieve it?”
Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) added, “Let me say this: Khamenei was a brutal dictator, but Americans are not safer today.”
I am not sure who he could possibly think that is true. This was the head of the snake, not to mention the numerous other leadership individuals who were killed in the strike. Sorry, Mr. Khanna, but I disagree.
But not all of them fell in line, such as Rep. Greg Landsman (D-OH), who stated, "I want a lasting peace for everyone in the region — from the Iranian people to the Lebanese, Palestinians, Syrians, Iraqis, Jordanians and Israelis. I hope these targeted strikes on the Iranian regime’s military assets ends the regime’s mayhem and bloodshed and makes way for this lasting peace in the region.”
Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA), as expected, was also among those backing Trump on the strike. It was not a lot of Dems, but it was enough to send a small shiver up the spine of leadership.
This also goes to show that the party sitting down when Trump asked them about their loyalty to Americans or illegal immigrants hit a nerve with their ability to get re-elected.
Before the SOTU address, I gave the GOP zero chance of holding the House. That visual is going to be hard for Democrats to defend, however, as every one of them is now on the record for supporting illegals over Americans, and it is going to make for some very powerful election ads in 2026.
