While promoting his new book, Gavin Newsom made a critical mistake while trying to pander to minority voters.
And since today’s world operates in 10-second clips, a mistake by Newsom is now threatening to upend the 2028 election in terms of Democrat favorites.
In fact, one of the more influential media personalities on the left is already giving Newsom zero chance of winning the presidency.
Newsom has been touring the country to promote his new book, “Young Man in a Hurry,” and a recent stop was Atlanta.
He was being hosted by Atlanta’s mayor, who is black, and he had a predominantly black crowd, so any fringe comment was going to be scrutinized, and Newsom did not disappoint.
He told the crowd, "I'm not trying to impress you. I'm just trying to impress upon you I'm like you. I'm no better than you. I'm a 960 SAT guy."
There was clearly more to the quote, but that is the part that went viral. Out of context, it’s really bad. But even within the full context, you have to question his word choice, considering his audience.
With all the racist allegations made against Trump, you knew the GOP was going to come after Newsom on this, and all the big names pounced.
For instance, Corrin Rankin, the first black chair of the California GOP in history, stated, "My first instinct was I couldn't believe that the governor of California was saying something like this in 2026.”
He continued, "I think he just tanked himself yesterday. You know, you can't go around and say that a segment of your state is intellectually inferior and think you're gonna represent Americans. It's never gonna happen. This is gonna haunt him for the rest of his career and any potential career he thinks he's going to have."
Newsom then started to play the victim card, calling out people for daring to go after someone who has struggled with dyslexia his entire life, as well as saying that if they were not outraged by “Trump’s racist ape video,” they could go, well, you know. That is the proven Democrat playbook now. Play the victim, feign outrage, and drop an F-bomb to get people to believe you.
Podcast and radio personality Charlamagne Tha God has been playing kingmaker on the left side of the aisle as of late, and he just crushed Newsom over those comments.
During a recent podcast, he responded to Newsom’s latest gaffe, stating, "GAVIN NEWSOM DON'T STAND A F***ING CHANCE at becoming president!”
He later added, “If there’s policies that you don’t like that Trump may enact, make it about that. Don’t make it about the person.”
There is another problem for Newsom, that being that he is trying to be the Democrat Trump, so he is becoming the very thing most Democrats despise. I have stated this before, but I truly believe the Democrat Party is sabotaging him on purpose to clear the way for new blood. Newsom’s actual record is not strong, and that will be exposed during an election cycle, and I believe Democrats are terrified of that.
