Get ready for the calls of scandal from the left.
A March 2025 shooting is coming back into the news cycle as a way for Democrats to continue to go after DHS, ICE, and Secretary Kristi Noem.
Dems will say that the 23-year-old was murdered by ICE, conveniently leaving out that he allegedly ran his car into another ICE agent.
Many of the shootings involving ICE agents or other immigration officers have gone before the court, and the administration is not doing very well, but they remain loyal to the officers.
For instance, agents claimed a man named Phillip Brown took a run at them at a DC intersection, but the judge in the case said the government was unable to prove its case, saying the agent fired “for reasons that are completely unclear to me.”
Over the past year, there have been 16 shootings by immigration law enforcement, including the Renee Good and Alex Pretti shootings.
At the time, then-DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin stated, “We work every day to give the American people swift, accurate information on evolving, challenging law enforcement operations as federal law enforcement officers are facing a highly coordinated campaign of violence against them.”
The Democrat narrative has been about either dismantling or completely reforming ICE, and they have no plans on reopening the government until the GOP gives in to their demands.
Leadership in the Democrat Party has been adamant that they will not budge until their reforms are made.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) stated, “The American people rightfully expect their elected representatives to take action to rein in ICE and ensure no more lives are lost.”
They have 10 demands that they want met before they will agree to fund DHS, including unmasking agents, names displayed, targeted enforcement, no “racial profiling,” and body cameras always on, among others.
American Oversight reported, “A DHS agent fired multiple rounds at Martinez, who allegedly hit another DHS agent with his car as the agents assisted local police in South Padre Island, Texas, with traffic control following an accident on March 15, 2025,” according to the New York Post.
Martinez’s family claims that he was trying to comply with the agents’ orders when he was shot and killed. The family’s attorney stated, “Ruben’s family has been pursuing transparency and accountability for nearly a year now and will continue to do so for as long as it takes.”
The shooting has come back into focus as Democrats try to paint the DHS and ICE as rogue agencies that are more like the Gestapo than an immigration enforcement agency. Chioma Chukwu, the executive director of American Oversight, stated, “These records paint a deeply troubling picture of the violent methods used by ICE.”
The watchdog group, however, says nothing about the violence that has been directed at agents over the last year, so this is a completely one-sided story. It is just as though everyone is going out of their way to give one side a free pass while highly scrutinizing the other.
