Zohran Mamdani has been facing antisemitic allegations from virtually the moment he announced his campaign.
Past videos surfaced with defamatory comments against Israel or mocking Israel, and he has at least two staffers who have had antisemitic comments on social media exposed.
Now, another official is being called into question for vile comments made on social media.
Catherine Almonte Da Costa had a rather short term working in Mamdani’s administration.
One day after he appointed her to lead his recruitment strategy, she was forced to resign due to antisemitic posts.
She stated, "I spoke with the Mayor-elect this afternoon, apologized, and expressed my deep regret for my past statements. These statements are not indicative of who I am.”
She continued, "As the mother of Jewish children, I feel a profound sense of sadness and remorse at the harm these words have caused. As this has become a distraction from the work at hand, I have offered my resignation.”
You can forgive one oversight, but when a second occurs, it is clear that checking for antisemitism is not really a concern, which brings us to TV personality Ms. Rachel, whom Mamdani added to his administration.
Ms. Rachel had liked an antisemitic post online, but she also claimed this was an accident.
She responded to the allegations, “I would never agree with an antisemitic thing like the comment. We have Jewish family, a lot of my friends are Jewish. I delete antisemitic comments.”
She further stated, “I want to say that it’s OK to be human and it’s OK to make mistakes and I’m old, so I am not as good with touching things online, I guess. I have liked things by accident before.”
Fast forward to this week, and Achmat Akkad, a community coordinator with the city’s Health Department, wrote on social media, “1 Israeli left in this world would be one too many!”
In another post, which has been deleted, Akkad wrote, “Jews that don’t support apartheid are safe. Zionists aren’t!”
Keep in mind, Mamdani’s Health Department was recently accused of using taxpayer funds to launch a global group that has accused Israel of genocide.
When do people start to open their eyes to the fact that this man is an antisemite? Once, you can forgive. Twice, you may still want to give him the benefit of the doubt, but it surely raises questions. This is the third instance, and in baseball, he would already be out.
