Trump says it was a ‘waste of time’ to meet with Bill Maher

It was big news when Donald Trump and Bill Maher announced that they were going to have dinner.

After the fact, Maher came away with a much better understanding of Trump, but it appears that Maher got under Trump’s skin again.

Trump just unloaded on Maher, calling their time together a “waste,” then he threw in a few personal insults for good measure.

Deregulation is wrong

I am trying to figure out why Trump would go after Maher out of the blue like this, because let’s face facts, he generally has something negative to say about Trump regularly.

Maher just hit him on deregulating environmental policies, stating, “I always thought, when Trump first ran, the most damage he possibly could do would be the environment, because he was always talking about what a hoax global warming was.”

He continued, “And, look, have, sometimes, they exaggerated, have some — I don’t think they did themselves any favors, sometimes, by predicting, like, oh, well, we’re going to hit past the tipping point if we don’t do something by 2012, and then we did, and now — but it’s still really happening, guys, it’s not a hoax, okay.”

I think most people would agree that pollution is bad, but when you cry wolf, you tend to make people believe the complete opposite. Perhaps we can get someone who actually knows the reality of the situation, and fossil and renewable energy companies work together instead of being pitted against each other by politicians who are all being paid off by lobbyists. But, that was not what upset Trump.

Hung out to dry

Maher also hit Trump on leaving Iranian protesters “hang out to dry” after having hit Iranian nuclear plants.

After complimenting Trump on the nuclear site hits, Maher then switches gears, stating, “[H]e did say a while ago, when they were starting to kill people in the streets, we’re not going to let you get away with this, and then he just let them hang out to dry.”

He then took a big swing, stating, "America’s not a very reliable ally. I thought he was going to be different on that.”

That falls right into the Democrat talking points about Trump betraying our NATO allies, and I have a bit of a different perspective that falls more in line with Trump’s thoughts on that one. But again, this is not what Trump was upset about.

Punching back

Trump discussed the dinner meeting, claiming that Maher was so nervous that he needed a drink, said how he thought things would be different, and then he revealed what it was that upset him. It was not Iran, and it was not deregulation, but rather a comment about Trump's post about China terminating hockey.

He explained, "In any event, it was a total waste of time for me to have this jerk at the White House and last night, after explaining what a DISASTER Canadian ‘Leaders’ are to deal with, how Canada has ‘ripped off’ the United States for years on TRADE (But not anymore!), I jokingly stated in a TRUTH that, ‘The first thing China will do is terminate ALL Ice Hockey being played in Canada, and permanently eliminate The Stanley Cup.’”

The rant continued, “Well, he went on and on about the Hockey statement, like ‘What kind of a person would say such a foolish thing as this,’ as though I were being serious when I said it. Fortunately, his Television Ratings are so low that nobody will learn about his various Fake News statements about me."

Then came the predictable “lightweight” comment and mocking of his ratings. This is the type of stuff that Trump needs to stop doing, period. This is what is exhausting to people, as he ranted on for about 400 words because he was upset Maher made fun of his hockey post. I just don’t understand why he takes everything so personally.
