Immigration laws are not about being cruel or inhumane; they are about controlling the flow of people in the country so as not to upset the economy, as well as blocking nefarious actors from entering the country.
If people did not realize that before, they should have figured it out over the last four years, yet the media and Democrats question why we need to enforce our immigration laws.
So much so, CBS host Margaret Brenna just about lost it when a Republican congressman insisted on enforcing immigration laws.
When Obama was in office, to that point, he was the record holder for deportations during a presidential administration.
And it was not just hardened criminals that Obama was deporting, as he was raiding workplaces and going after employers who were hiring illegal immigrants.
From 2009 to 2016, there were nearly three million deportations, far more than any other president before him.
While there was pushback, it was hardly the outrage we see with Trump in office.
Democrats were not happy with Obama’s deportations, but there were no riots over it, and we surely did not see ICE agents being deported or the recommendation of dismantling the agency.
For instance, Rep. Luis Gutierrez (R-IL) had stated, "Look, what I said to [Cecilia Munoz, director of the Domestic Policy Council] is, I said, 'Think about it a moment. Donald Trump is praising your public policy on immigration. You should need no further evidence of how wrong it is.'"
I think it is rather amusing that TDS was already present even back then.
Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) had also pushed back at that time, stating, "We need to obey our laws. But we also want to, in obeying our laws, make sure that the process is fair to people.”
Rep. Tony Gonzalez (R-TX) stunned Brennan. She went on this long-winded rant about a man being deported by this administration, to which Gonzalez replied, “Well, the front door was via an app that Biden knew exactly what he was doing, and he created this huge mess and now President Trump is there to clean up. And immigration— ,” which is when Brennan cut him off.
She argued that they did come in through the front door, and Gonzales shot back, “Through an app that wasn’t vetted. And the bottom line is that he’s likely— they’re not going to qualify for asylum. So, what do you do with all the people that go through the process and do not qualify for asylum? You deport them. I understand the five-year-old. And it, you know, it breaks my heart. I have a five-year-old at home. I also think, ‘What about that five-year-old U.S. citizen? What about our— ‘”
Brennan shot back, “You feel comfortable defending that?” When the congressman tried to reply, she cut him off again, stating, “They were following the law. That’s the rub is that a new administration deemed the last administration’s regulation not to be legal.”
That is not reporting; it’s activism, and that is what today’s media is, at least for the most part. Do they have the same compassion for an American woman who steals food from the grocery store to feed her family and winds up being ripped out of her home, sent to jail, and her children sent to a foster home? When was the last time the media or Democrats advocated for those people? This is a political football, nothing more.
