Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), like all Democrats, hits the GOP on climate change every chance he gets.
The funny thing about that, however, is that while whining about the oligarchy and climate change, Sanders is traveling the country in a private jet.
It turns out, in his latest filings, Sanders spent more than $500,000 on private jet fees, with most of that likely being paid for out of campaign money.
Sanders has been seen quite often getting off a private jet during his campaigns, but it went into overdrive when he and AOC started their “Fighting Oligarchy” tour.
When Sanders was asked about flying private, he refused to apologize.
Sanders stated, “No apologies for that. That’s what campaign travel is about. We’ve done it in the past. We’re gonna do it in future.”
Then the arrogance and entitlement kicked in, adding, “You run a campaign and you do three or four or five rallies in a week. That’s the only way you can get around to talk to 30,000 people. You think I’m gonna be sitting on a waiting line at United … while 30,000 people are waiting?”
If you are doing three rallies in a week, there is plenty of time to travel with the masses, but Sanders believes he is above it all, and that last line proves it.
For climate change, there is no greater concern than private jet travel, as it creates more pollution than every plane that took off at Heathrow in a 2023 study.
Daniel Sitompul, Aviation Fellow at the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT), stated, “Private jets are a surprisingly large source of air and climate pollution. A typical private jet emits as many greenhouse gases each year as 177 passenger cars or nine heavy-duty highway trucks.”
Many of our politicians fly private, and don’t even get me started on the attendees of climate change conferences, who all travel private, then have a massive caravan of cars when they are driving around town. It’s complete hypocrisy.
Sanders’ 2025 filings were eye-popping, having spent more than $550,000 on private jet flights during the 2025 campaign season.
Most of the spending was during the first half of the year, which makes sense, as that was when he and AOC were jumping up and down on stage during their tour and traveling around the country to support socialist candidates.
Conservative political communications consultant Matt Gorman commented, "You don't expect a socialist to fly commercial, do you? There's no bigger hypocrite than the liberal who chastises us for eating meat and using gas stoves, yet flies in private jets."
So, if you donated to Sanders’ campaign, he thanks you for allowing him to travel around like, well, an oligarch.
