Trump has been jousting with Iran, recently letting the terrorist nation know that he was sending a massive fleet into the area just in case a strike was needed.
After Trump made that announcement, a report surfaced that USS Abraham Lincoln, one of our carriers, was susceptible to drone attacks by Iran.
Iran apparently got the word, as a drone strike was reportedly defeated.
With the brutal reaction by Iranian officials to the outbreak of protests in the country, Trump has been ramping up pressure on several fronts.
Trump had told Iran that if it went after protesters, he would have no choice but to act.
He has also told the terrorist nation it needs to come to the table to make a nuclear deal.
In an effort to apply even more pressure on Iran, the USS Abraham Lincoln was ordered to the area.
A report surfaced about two weeks ago that the administration wanted a readiness report to be heavily redacted so as not to give our enemies, specifically Iran, any ideas about hitting our carrier.
Cameron Chell, CEO and co-founder of Draganfly, warned, "Iran’s drone capabilities are worth well into the tens of millions of dollars.”
He continued, "By pairing low-cost warheads with inexpensive delivery platforms, essentially remotely piloted aircraft, Iran has developed an effective asymmetric threat against highly sophisticated military systems."
When that report first surfaced, I questioned whether our assets would not be able to take out a strike, and that question was just answered.
It would appear that Iran was probing for answers on how the Lincoln would respond to a possible threat, as it was just reported that an F-35C fighter shot down a drone from Iran. The report stated, “USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) was transiting the Arabian Sea approximately 500 miles from Iran’s southern coast when an Iranian Shahed-139 drone unnecessarily maneuvered toward the ship.”
It continued, “The Iranian drone continued to fly toward the ship despite de-escalatory measures taken by U.S. forces operating in international waters. An F-35C fighter jet from Abraham Lincoln shot down the Iranian drone in self-defense and to protect the aircraft carrier and personnel on board.”
In addition to this incident, gunboats tried to “board and seize” the M/V Stena Imperative, an oil tanker, but the “Guided-missile destroyer USS McFaul (DDG 74) was operating in the area and immediately responded to the scene to escort M/V Stena Imperative with defensive air support from the U.S. Air Force.”
It would seem someone is getting a little frisky. Trump does not want to see the United States in another war, but has never been afraid to use the big stick that we have. Iran may soon find out just how big it is.
