There are very few Democrats whom I respect these days, but former Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) is one of them.
It’s not because I agree with his policies, but rather because he dared to stand up to the party and throw his hat into the ring long before the party admitted it needed to replace Joe Biden.
The party went after Phillips hard for stepping up, and he has since been returning the favor by dropping truth bombs, including a big one against Gavin Newsom.
We all saw Joe Biden shrinking away into nothing, and any Democrats who say they did not see it until the debate are, in my opinion, liars.
Phillips had no problem calling it out to primary Joe Biden simply to give people another option.
On his run, he stated, "I didn't see anything that others weren't ... I was just willing to say something about it."
In this day and age, it took courage to go directly against the party, knowing full well that he was committing political suicide in the process.
Phillips also threw some shade at Governor Tim Walz, opening up about how the immigration issue is taking a lot of money away from programs that used to benefit all of Minnesota, not just the migrant community.
He stated, “But as I traveled the country, certainly as a member of Congress and since, I discovered that we’re paying a lot more taxes in Minnesota and not getting the services that we once enjoyed.”
He continued, “And that, I think, does have a lot to do with the migration, certainly from northern states to southern states, because in Minnesota, New York, Michigan, Illinois, we’re not going to attract people because of our lovely winters.”
That is a bold statement, and it is one that I hope the people of Minnesota listen to rather than continue to drink the Kool-Aid by Walz and other party members.
Phillips also ventured out of Minnesota to talk about the new golden boy of the party, Gavin Newsom.
He stated, “Gavin Newsom, perfect example. I don’t know how he makes a case to the United States of America that what he’s done in California could be a metaphor for what he can do to the United States, and that’s just the truth.”
That is what I like to refer to as a truth bomb, my friends.
Phillips went on to call blue states in this country a mess, using California as a perfect example. Newsom has been horrible as governor, yet he has managed to survive a recall and won re-election even though he is driving the state into the ground and driving away Californians. He is living proof that politics today is more about looks and personality than it is about ability. God help us all if he wins in 2028.
