Is it comedy or is it slander… that is the question after Grammys host Trevor Noah tried to link Donald Trump to Epstein’s salacious behavior.
Noah cracked a joke about it, and the president took exception.
Now, Trump is threatening to sue Noah and the awards show over the “joke.”
I did not watch the show, but it seemed like every person who had a microphone stuck in their face managed to take a shot at Trump or ICE.
At one point, Noah cracked a joke that just about blew up on the internet.
He stated, “That is a Grammy that every artist wants… almost as much as Trump wants Greenland.”
He then added, “Which makes sense, I mean, because Epstein’s island is gone, he needs a new one to hang out with Bill Clinton.”
So, yes, Trump is in the Epstein files, but not nearly how Noah inferred.
There were more than 5,000 files that mentioned the president’s name, but like many other people, some were notes by Epstein or simply because they were traveling in the same circle, and photos were taken while they were near each other at the event.
Trump has never hidden from the fact that he knew Epstein nor from the fact that they were acquaintances. But Trump has always stated that when Epstein tried to recruit staff members from his property, he broke off contact.
The worst file that I know of is an alleged birthday card from Trump to Epstein, which the president and his camp have repeatedly denied.
Trump was not happy about the joke, nor did he like the comments made by Michael Wolff that started a lot of the conversations about the connections between Epstein, Trump, and his wife, Melania.
Trump stated, "It looked like this guy, Wolff, was a writer, was conspiring with Epstein to do harm to me. I didn’t see it myself, but I was told by some very important people that not only does it absolve me, it's the opposite of what people were hoping, you know, the radical left, that Wolff, who's a third-rate writer, was conspiring with Jeffrey Epstein to hurt me, politically or otherwise, and that came through loud and clear."
Wolff has been advising Epstein during his legal troubles, writing to him, "You do need an immediate counter narrative to the book. I believe Trump offers an ideal opportunity. It’s a chance to make the story about something other than you, while, at the same time, letting you frame your own story. Also, becoming anti-Trump gives you a certain political cover which you decidedly don’t have now.”
This is going to give Democrats more fodder to use against Trump, but I am with Trump on this one. That conversation gives Trump the ammunition he needs to pushback against any claims made about him and Epstein. Wolff clearly wanted Epstein to use Trump as his get-out-of-jail-free card. I honestly don’t blame him one bit for wanting to sue here.
