In previous reports, I had stated that as long as Democrats are not insistent in rubbing this in Trump’s face, I think this will get de-escalated rather quickly.
Trump knows this is bad for him right now, but he also cannot afford to have Democrats bragging about getting him to cave.
He has sent border czar Tom Homan in to clean up this mess, but from what I am seeing, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey could be a real problem.
After the Renee Good shooting, the video evidence left Trump pretty confident that he could continue operations, but the shooting of Alex Pretti was perceived much differently.
The temperature has gone up tenfold, and now Trump is hoping to defuse this before we have a legitimate civil war on our hands.
At the same time, he knows he cannot do it in a manner that would have the liberal horde thinking it beat Trump on immigration, so Trump is pushing a cooperation narrative rather than outright surrender.
Trump told Fox News, “You know, we have Tom Homan there now, we put him in there. He's great. And they met with the governor, the mayor, everybody else. And we’ll, we're going to de-escalate a little bit.”
Tom Homan has been sent in to clean up the mess, and my guess is that his job is to get Minnesota officials to agree to work with the administration on removing proven "criminals," and the administration will back off on other deportations, at least for now.
Walz announced that he had met with Homan, and it was a bit of an aggressive tone, but I can live with it.
Homan was very neutral, simply stating that things were moving forward.
Frey, however, was a bit more aggressive in his statement.
Frey has already started talking tough on social media, posting, “I shared with Mr. Homan the serious negative impacts this operation has had on Minneapolis and surrounding communities, as well as the strain it has placed on our local police officers.”
He continued, “I also made it clear that Minneapolis does not and will not enforce federal immigration laws, and that we will remain focused on keeping our neighbors and streets safe.”
Now, think about that… he openly admits that he will not enforce laws, and people seem to be okay with that. The message here is horrific... if you don't like a law, protest, get violent, and the government will back off.
The way Frey is framing this, he clearly plans on playing this as the administration caving, and I promise you, that is not going to fly with Trump. If there was ever a time for people to put their hubris away, this is it, but Frey clearly wants to get some political points out of this, and all he will do is increase the temperature by doing so. We will soon find out if he wants peace or wants to continue to use his constituents as pawns in what is a real-life “Game of Thrones” moment.
