Today’s “thought” was about Ronald Reagan’s message after the Space Shuttle exploded, and his hopeful message to the nation. Today, I asked our readers what their message to the nation would be right now if they were in President Trump’s shoes. Elias T. from Alabama responded:

“Reagan understood something that modern leaders often forget: America is not defined by its tragedies, but by how we respond to them. We didn't stop exploring space after Challenger; we fixed the problem, mourned our heroes, and went back to the launchpad. That is the message we need right now.

“We are going through a rough patch—the country feels divided and the anger is high—but we have survived a Civil War, a Great Depression, and two World Wars. The spirit of this nation is resilient. If I were President, I would tell the people: ‘Stop looking at the ground and start looking up again. Our best days are not behind us unless we decide to quit.’”
