Donald Trump loves sports, and he loves attending the biggest events, but that will not be the case for this year’s Super Bowl.
When the entertainment was announced, MAGA lost its mind, but Trump was relatively quiet about it.
That just changed, as Trump announced that he will be skipping this year’s Super Bowl after railing against the performers.
The halftime show was announced back in September, when the NFL revealed that Bad Bunny was going to do the halftime show.
After he was chosen, he stated, "What I'm feeling goes beyond myself," Bad Bunny said in a statement. "It's for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown… this is for my people, my culture, and our history.”
Then he added, “Ve y dile a tu abuela, que seremos el HALFTIME SHOW DEL SUPER BOWL."
For many on the right side of the aisle, this was a slap in the face, as it seemed like he was chosen purposely to make a statement about all the immigration controversies we are seeing in this country right now.
The internet was on fire for days after the announcement was made, and the feedback from MAGA was not good.
For instance, conservative media personality Benny Johnson stated, "The NFL is self-destructing year after year," also making note that Bad Bunny had canceled parts of his US tour over ICE, saying that he was concerned about ICE being “outside my concert.”
There were comments about the entire show being in Spanish, as well as serving as a giant anti-ICE rally, and they are not wrong, especially now after the two shootings in Minnesota.
The left, however, was delighted with the announcement and relishing in the fact that the right was having a complete meltdown over the chosen entertainment.
Trump announced this weekend that he would not make the trip because of the distance, but that has never stopped him before. My money is on Trump not going because he knows the environment will be hostile, as both acts are anti-Trump.
When Bad Bunny was announced, Trump had stated, "I don’t know who he is. I don’t know why they’re doing it. It’s crazy. And then they blame it on some promoter they hired to pick up entertainment. I think it’s absolutely ridiculous."
Green Day has been blistering Trump for months. During a recent show, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong stated, “We stand up for our brothers and sisters in Minnesota,” and I am sure this entire show will be nothing but a political statement against ICE, Trump, and MAGA.
Trump responded in kind, stating, “I’m anti-them. I think it’s a terrible choice. All it does is sow hatred. Terrible.” I usually watch the Super Bowl, but this could be a year that I skip it, as the environment is just going to be toxic for conservatives. I don’t know about you, but I have heard enough about how awful a person I am for being in favor of enforcing our immigration laws. My guess is that I will not be alone, as I suspect most conservatives will take this year’s Super Bowl off.
