The last few weeks have been an absolute nightmare for Minnesota Democrats.
In particular, the fraud allegations within the state have brought a huge spotlight on Gov. Tim Walz and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), as well as Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey.
Trump is now calling out Walz and Omar for their rhetoric about ICE, claiming that it is all deflection to make people look away from the fraud scandals.
Omar and Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) hosted a recent hearing on Trump’s immigration actions in Minnesota.
The Minnesota liberal started the hearing off, stating, in part, “What we are witnessing right now is unprecedented. There is no modern precedent for this level of federal overreach, violence, and lawlessness carried out in the name of immigration enforcement.”
She continued, "This is not routine enforcement. This is not about public safety. This is not even about immigration. This is about political retribution.”
Or maybe, just maybe, it is about unprecedented fraud in her district that Democrats would love to see brushed under the rug.
Walz is no better, hosting a live-streaming event intended to call out Trump’s actions, as well as activating the National Guard in what appears to be a proposed showdown between federal law enforcement and Guard troops.
The governor stated that the Guard would be "staged and ready" for a deployment if need be after ICE shot and killed a protester who allegedly tried to run over an ICE agent.
He added, "Our public safety team has the resources, coordination, and personnel on the ground to maintain public safety and respond if needed. Thanks to local law enforcement for keeping the peace."
However, local police have not kept the peace, as agents have been blocked, assaulted, attacked with vehicles, boxed in, and spat on.
With all the recent comments from Omar and Walz, Trump went off, accusing them of trying to deflect from the alleged fraud that is taking place in the state.
Trump stated, "ICE is removing some of the most violent criminals in the World from our Country, and bring them back home, where they belong. Why is Minnesota fighting this? Do they really want murderers and drug dealers to be ensconced in their community?”
He continued, “The thugs that are protesting include many highly paid professional agitators and anarchists. Is this really what Minnesota wants?"
This is a really tough situation for Trump because even though he is right, liberals in the state have completely bought into the narrative being pitched by Walz and Omar, to the point that they are arming themselves for a fight against ICE. Yet, Trump cannot back down to give Democrats the win because if he does so now, it will only encourage more of these protests against agents. So, as I said, he is in a no-win situation at this point.
