The left’s obsession with ICE continues, as they are standing firm in their position that illegal immigration is not a crime.
This got started with various Democrats and the media claiming that illegal immigration is a civil offense, not a criminal one (they are wrong), and it continued with California Democrats passing a law that would ban ICE agents from wearing face masks during enforcement operations.
Now, gubernatorial candidate Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) is claiming that he will revoke the driver's license of any ICE agent operating in California who wears a mask.
State Assembly member Mark Gonzalez, a Los Angeles Democrat, announced that the law that would fine any agent wearing a face covering in the amount of $10,000.
Gonzalez stated, “We initially were under the understanding that, oh, they’re only targeting folks who were not citizens.”
He continued, “And then actually over time you learn they don’t give a [crap] who you are, they’re attacking you no matter what, with no due process.”
Ironically, Democrats have no problem with rioters around the country who often wear face masks to shield their identities from law enforcement.
After the new law was signed, the Trump administration immediately pushed back, suing the state, while at the same time announcing that it had no intention of adhering to the ban.
Bill Essayli, the top federal prosecutor in Los Angeles, stated, "Today we filed a lawsuit to strike down California's unconstitutional law aimed at unmasking the faces of our federal agents, which will allow criminals to dox them. Unconstitutional laws such as this one further endanger our brave men and women protecting our community."
Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office responded, "If the Trump administration cared half as much about public safety as it does about pardoning cop-beaters, violating people's rights, and detaining U.S. citizens and their kids, our communities would be much safer. We'll see the U.S. Department of Justice in court."
Agents engaged in operations such as these have been wearing masks to protect their identities for as long as I can remember. And it is done just as much to protect family members as it is the agents, especially if those involved in the operation are working undercover.
Enter Swalwell, who is trying to raise his national profile for his run at the governor’s office, and who is now targeting ICE agents to try to boost his election bid.
Swalwell joined the host of Democrats who now feel that they have to use vulgarities to make their point. In this case, the liberal lawmaker made an utterly ridiculous threat against the agents while also lobbing an egregious insult.
He stated, “They’re going to lose their immunity, they’re not gonna be able to drive. I will take your driver’s license. Good luck walking to work, assholes.”
It will be interesting to see what happens when Swalwell asks local law enforcement to go after federal agents. Democrats are already using citizens as pawns in this fight, and now they are escalating to using local law enforcement to do their bidding. This is all due to the fact that ICE agents are finally enforcing our immigration laws.
