So, this is apparently a “thing” now, where blue city officials start acting like tough guys against ICE. Do they not realize that ICE is a federal law enforcement agency enforcing immigration laws that clearly fall under federal purview?
Today’s “thought” used a quote from Ronald Reagan made during protests at U.C. Berkeley, relating his comments about not negotiating with radicals, and applying it to what is happening now after the ICE-involved shooting in Minnesota.
Our reader comment today comes from Harrison B. out of Wyoming, who stated:
“Reagan hit the nail right on the head. We have spent too many years teaching people that if they scream loud enough and break enough windows, the government will fold. Trump cannot give an inch here. If he pulls ICE back now, he validates the idea that mob rule is superior to the rule of law."
“The agents in Minnesota were enforcing the laws on the books. You don't ‘negotiate’ with that. You support your officers, you enforce the law, and you make it clear that the streets belong to the citizens, not the agitators.”
Harrison, I agree, and I would take it a step further to point a finger at the courts for kicking the question of sanctuary city status down the road for years. This issue must be settled, and it must be settled very soon, or this situation will only get worse.
