Rep. Ilhan Omar carves out $1M in earmarks in new spending bill

All eyes are on the Somali community in Minnesota, as well as on Gov. Tim Walz, and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), whose district is home to a large contingent of such migrants in the state.

With tallies of as much as $9 billion in fraud in social services programs now being reported, you would think Omar would play it cool regarding her funding demands of the federal government.

But there is Omar, spewing rhetoric in the media, accusing ICE of murder, and then attempting to carve out $1 million in earmarks for the Somalis in the upcoming spending bill.

Trump 'delusional'

Democrats love deflection, and that is what Omar is all about right now, trying to make Donald Trump out to be someone who has literally lost his mind.

After Trump described the woman shot on Wednesday by an ICE agent as “disorderly, obstructing, and resisting,” Omar stated, “Well, that’s an incredibly delusional, statement. We’ve all seen the video. We’ve seen it on multiple angles. You can see no ice agent falls to the ground. No one is run over.”

She continued, “So to rewrite. Something that is still so visibly available, on all everywhere, that people can, can see. Just shows how, disturbingly delusional our president has become.  But the people have their own eyes. They can make their own judgments. And certainly when this investigation is over, we are going to know really what has taken place. And I hope that that leads to accountability.”

Well, it was not that cut and dry. The agent was clearly clipped by the now-deceased woman's car, and had he not moved out of the way, he would have been run over. Yet, of course, the media did not challenge Omar on these points.

It’s Murder

Democrats are already framing the incident as a murder at the hands of the ICE agent, and the tactic is working to some extent because we are seeing tempers flare and protests organized. This could well beccome George Floyd all over again.

To that point, Omar stated, “ICE has been carrying out state-sanctioned violence in our communities. We have seen them terrorize so many of citizens in the Fifth District and across Minnesota. And that has tragically led to this murder that we all watched on TV.”

She continued, “And so, it is not helpful for us to have ICE agents unlawfully just carrying out these ridiculous raids that are not resulting in any sort of arrests, that have no explanation of why they are there. They are disturbing peaceful communities that are just trying to live out their lives. And I join our mayor and our senator in asking them to get the heck out of our city.”

This is the type of rhetoric I have been warning about for months, as they are choosing their words very carefully to trigger people. “State-sanctioned violence” and “terrorize.” These are all meant to evoke an emotion when ICE agents were doing nothing more than their jobs, while Democrats are painting them as Gestapo agents.

Carving out money

This is all a distraction, however, to deflect from something else that Omar has done, and she almost got away with it.

Omar earmarked $1 million in the upcoming spending bill for Generation Hope’s “Justice Empowerment Initiative.” Thankfully, the move was caught by the House Appropriations Committee Chair, Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK).

He stated, “I can’t afford to have a million-dollar project jeopardize a $184 billion package of bills. If we have an individual project that can pose a political problem, I’ve had these in the past from our side before, where we had to tell a member, ‘look, there might be a way to do this, but our advice to you is to withdraw this.'”

If I were a Democrat right now, I would not be asking for additional funding for any of these groups, in light of the massive amounts of suspected fraud recently uncovered. How about getting all of the wrongdoing cleaned up first, then we can start to discuss funding programs again.
