Our vice president had a bit of a scare this week, but he seems to be getting used to it.
JD Vance has seen some nasty protests as well as live trolling, but this scenario was a bit different.
Someone apparently damaged Vance's residence in Ohio, but thankfully, nobody was home at the time.
Vance was in office for less than two months when he saw the first real resistance to his serving as vice president..
The VP was in Vermont right after he had a heated exchange with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House, and locals showed up to give him a piece of their mind.
It was so bad, in fact, that the Vance family had to change its lodging plans because word got out where they were staying, and protesters had even shown up there.
Vermont's governor, Phil Scott, an anti-Trump Republican, was hoping his constituents would be respectful, stating, “I hope Vermonters remember the vice-president is here on a family trip with his young children and, while we may not always agree, we should be respectful.” Needless to say, they did not abide by his wishes.
Vance ran into the same problem when he took his family to Disneyland in California.
This time, however, California Gov. Gavin Newsom welcomed the protests against Vance, posting, "Hope you enjoy your family time, @JDVance. The families you're tearing apart certainly won't.”
I saw videos of the people confronting Vance, and I thought their behavior was despicable.
You want to do that type of nonsense, do it at a political event, not when the man’s children are right there and can hear everything you say.
Early Monday morning, a report surfaced that someone had been arrested after allegedly damaging Vance’s home in Ohio.
While the individual was not immediately identified, local police did say that several windows had been broken at the home.
Vance responded, "I appreciate everyone's well wishes about the attack at our home. As far as I can tell, a crazy person tried to break in by hammering the windows. I'm grateful to the secret service and the Cincinnati police for responding quickly. We weren't even home as we had returned already to D.C."
This type of attack is unacceptable, because imagine if Mr. and Mrs. Vance had been home with their kids. It’s bad enough for someone to be doing this type of thing, but the trauma that could have a lasting impact on these children, arising simply because of a policy disagreement, is unforgiveable. People really need to take a breath and calm down.
