REPORT: Firm led by Ilhan Omar's husband scrubs officer names from website amid MN fraud scandal

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has been just as much the topic of conversation as Gov. Tim Walz concerning the massive fraud scheme that took place in Minnesota.

Walz, as governor, clearly needs to be held accountable, but the Somali community is largely represented by Omar, not to mention that she supported the legislation that led to the fraud.

Now reports are breaking that a firm owned by Omar's husband has removed the names of its officers and directors from its website, with the obvious conclusion being that they don’t want to draw any attention in their direction with everything that is going on right now.

No regrets

Omar was very supportive of the MEALS Act, which was put in place during the COVID outbreak, and the legislation that enabled all this fraud to take place.

When she was asked about her feelings for having supported the legislation, she responded, "Absolutely not, it did help feed kids.”

I am honestly not sure how many children were fed, but we do know hundreds of millions were given to organizations that did not feed any children. And we are also now seeing reports that the fraud in the state in the Somali community may be nearing as much as $20 billion.

Maybe I am just a bit out of line, but I think she could have crafted a much better response.

Somaliland stance slammed

Omar has been very vocal about Somalian territorial claims, as well as being against independent Somaliland recognition being given.

Her views are being called into question, considering the massive fraud that has taken place in her home state and within her community.

Michael Rubin, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, responded, "The corruption exposed in Minnesota mirrors the governance failures that have plagued Somalia for decades.”

He continued, "Somaliland has charted a different course entirely, relying on internal accountability rather than international assistance, and that distinction matters right now.”

Remove his name

In 2022, Omar’s current husband, Tim Mynett, launched Rose Lake Capital, which is now reportedly valued at as much as $25 million, a fairly large growth in such a short period of time.

The firm, for some unknown reason, just scrubbed the names of its officers and advisers from its website. This is now being questioned because of the reported surge in Omar’s net worth, which some sites claim to be as much as $30 million (it was around $50,000 when she took office).

Omar is now under fire because she has been linked to many of the individuals who have been charged in these fraud cases (she has not been accused of any wrongdoing as of yet).

Now, to be clear, I am not accusing Omar of having broken the law in any way, but I am saying that as far as appearances go, she and Mynett are just inviting some hard questions about their rather significant increase in net worth during the same period where the government was defrauded for billions.
