The GOP has been taking a beating in elections here in the States.
There has also recently been an election in Honduras, which has been over for weeks, but Trump was wary that games were going to be played with the results in the days that followed.
Well, all the results are in, and it is a clean sweep for Trump and his preferred candidates.
When the election in Honduras was first over, the early leader in tallies was Tito Asfura, whom Trump had backed in the race.
After the initial reporting, Trump had posted, "Looks like Honduras is trying to change the results of their Presidential Election. If they do, there will be hell to pay!"
After the results were announced, Asfura posted, "Honduras: I am ready to govern. I will not let you down.”
This may not yet be over, however, as Congress President Luis Redondo of the LIBRE party is claiming something is afoul. He posted, "This is completely outside the law. It has no value."
There were also three special elections in South Carolina, all of which were won by Republicans.
The one election surrounded by controversy was the seat for state Rep. RJ May, who had been forced to resign his seat after a sex scandal broke.
May recently pleaded guilty, waiving his right to a jury trial, for having sent videos of children being sexually abused.
His seat was won by John Lastinger, who easily defeated his Democrat opponent, J. Chuck Hightower, by nearly 25% of the vote.
It was great that the GOP and Trump’s preferred candidate in Honduras prevailed, but the Republicans overplayed the significance of the situation.
After the South Carolina seats were won, the state GOP posted, “Republicans won all three special elections and that success belongs to the voters who showed up. While Democrats hoped low turnout would hand them a win, Republicans proved them wrong at the ballot box. We didn’t sit this one out. We showed up, voted, and protected conservative leadership across South Carolina.”
The sex scandal had made the May seat a bit more interesting in terms of how voters would feel, but this was a solidly red district, and that showed up in the voting. As for the other two seats, the candidates ran unopposed, so the local GOP overplayed its hand in terms of touting this as a sign of things to come.
Now, this is great news, but I don’t want people to get comfortable over these wins. I am not going to sugarcoat prospects for the 2026 election cycle. It will be very tough to win, which is why we need everyone to show up and to start working right now to drive support so that the GOP holds the House. History says this will likely be a monumental loss, but we have defied history before!
