I have said this before, and we all know it is true… if you ever want to see Democrats go all-in on something, just have Donald Trump take a stand against it.
Ever since a massive fraud scheme in Minnesota was exposed in the state's Somali community, Trump has been on the attack, to the point that he said he wants all such immigrants removed from the country, including Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN).
Now, Democrat mayors in cities with large Somali populations are rallying behind the group's members, gushing over them, actually, with Boston’s Mayor Michelle Wu leading the charge.
What started out as a $250 million scandal in the Minnesota Somali community has blossomed into a fraud scenario that is nearing $20 billion in total.
With every passing day, the total amount stolen in Minnesota goes up, with Gov. Tim Walz now under the microscope.
While Democrat officials have rallied around Walz and the Somali community, some officials are being a bit more realistic regarding how this will impact the states where the fraud has been running rampant.
Joseph H. Thompson, the federal prosecutor who has overseen the fraud cases in Walz's state, declared, “No one will support these programs if they continue to be riddled with fraud. We’re losing our way of life in Minnesota in a very real way.”
As I noted above, when Trump attacks, Democrats rally, and that is what they are doing with Somalians in their communities, even in the states where fraud schemes have been running rampant.
For example, Minneapolis Democrat Mayor Jacob Frey just signed an ordinance that will allow local mosques to announce a call to prayer over loudspeakers five times a day, likening it to church bells being rung on Sundays at Catholic churches.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara actually apologized for investigating crimes committed by the Somali community. He is literally apologizing to criminals.
In Ohio, the state’s Democrat senators released a statement expressing that they are “standing in solidarity with our Somali neighbors” and decrying the “vilification of immigrant communities and communities of color.”
Then there is Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, who has taken the surrender to an entirely different level.
She responded to Trump’s attacks, “You cannot talk about any achievement that the city of Boston has had in safety, jobs and economic development, in education, without talking about the Somali community that has lifted our city up.”
Wu continued, “We are proud, and we are grateful for our Somali community and our Somali American neighbors.”
I was recently in Boston, and I can tell you that the temperature around the waterfront and business districts was not very warm to Wu, but that is not where her main supporters live. The commercial district represents a more conservative area, so I did not expect to see much support for her there. But, and that is a very big but, those residents are extremely frustrated with Wu and livid over her policies. Having said that, Wu will probably win her next election simply because liberals outnumber conservatives in that city.
